Rusted Tire Carrier rehab advice?

I tried to drop the spare yesterday, but it was rusted all to hell.

Thank God for PB Blaster!!

Now that I have gotten the tire down, what can I do to the rusty mechanism to try to keep it from seizing again?

An old thread said to put marine grease on there. I have some great smelly stuff (Mobil 1), that I am going to put on there.

Any advice?

It is moving, but is still getting hung up going down sometimes.

If I have to cut it out later, no biggie. Buy I'm going to try to save that part.
