Well today as I was driving I hydroplaned and hit a tree. The body is destroyed but I just put a new engine in my 4runner. She still runs great she's just not straight. I did some searching and couldn't find a solid answer. I want to know what makes and models I can drop my engine and transmission in? I just want to buy a chassis but has anyone put this engine in anything other than a 4runner? thanks

It's a 1997 2WD, 3.4l automatic.

Well to answer your question. You can put it in a Tacoma 3rd gen 4 runner. There have also been people that have succesfully transplanted that drivetrain into 1st, 2nd Gen Runners and pick ups from 85-on. The easiest would be another 3rd gen Runner or a 96-04 Tacoma since they came from the factory with that drivetrain.

hey pike would that trans be compatible with a 4x4 set up?
might be a good option at looking at all things considered...

sorry that happened and glad everyone is ok!

There are adapters out there like the one from Inchworm Gear - Toyota Rockcrawling Equipment. I know someone resurected a thread of Neliconcepts 4x conversion that talks about it. I am sure the product has been refined since his build but not sure. I have talked to three guys from TTORA that say if they had to do the 2wd to 4wd conversion they would sell the 2wd and buy a 4wd instead of the pain of converting. The auto is a little harder but yes it can be done.
