Sad Day for my 2014 5th Gen

Hi everyone,

Long story short, I walked out of work only to find a Ford Excursion that was broken into had rolled down the parking lot at work, and sandwiched my 4R into my co-workers Xterra.

Police report was done and insurance info was exchanged between everyone. I then called my insurance and they stated since his car was the one that set off the chain of events, he would be responsible for the damages among the vehicles.

Rear bumper and hatch are pushed in, RR tail light is cracked, and front bumper has a divot and scratches from the Xterra in front of me.

Haven't been through this before so any advice would be helpful.

Just so heart braking to see my 2000 mile old 2014 banged up already.

Sorry to hear that. But do what you can to get them to cover the loss of value. Can't remeber what it's called exactly but they'll cut you a check if they determine the accident to have lessened the value.

I'd be devastated too but I would use the check towards some aftermarket bumpers instead of new factory ones. Goodluck that does suck.

That stinks. I know how you feel as many years ago I had a vehicle get hit that had less than a hundred miles on it. Funny to be pi$$ed and sick at the same time.

Thank You

I appreciate the advice folks. Here is a few pics of the damage, its pretty much all cosmetic but gut wrenching to see. You can click on the right of the frame to switch photos.

That sucks! I got rear ended at 7k miles, now I'm at 57k, still thinking about getting that fixed, new aftermarket bumpers seem like a good way to go, hahaha. :sorry:

It just looks like the bumper cover was damaged. Super easy and quick to fix. Would not worry about diminished value for that, but worth a try.

Don't try to pull the aftermarket bumper thing unless you plan to wait a long time to get it fixed and plan to swap out your suspension to make up for all the added weight... Unless you wheel hard on a regular basis - steel bumpers are not a great idea.

Yeah from the looks of it, it'll most likely be a new lift gate, front/rear bumper, and RR tail light. Its just the hassle of dealing with the insurance that i absolutely hate going through.

At first I thought the excursion might have been an abandoned stolen vehicle with the dash pulled apart along with the stereo they attempted to steal but then the owner showed up just as shocked as all of us.

Sorry to hear all that, what a weird situation! I would still go for diminished value, since I would imagine it would go on to your Carfax report. No matter how "easy" the fix is, it was still technically in an accident.

Sorry to hear this happened. How big was the hill you were parked on? Did you have the emergency brake on when it happened? Just wondering since I just read the thread about emergency brakes and the size of the indent in the transmission for when it's in Park.

The parking lot has a mild grade so its not too steep. The emergency brake was fully engaged when i parked the vehicle but the Excursion was able to push my 4R half a tire length forward until i struck my co-worker's Xterra.

Not sure how insurance works in your state but in Iowa if it happened in a parking lot each vehicles insurance company pays for their own damage. Prefer to not answer how I know this as it raised my rates by making the claim when I thought the other guy had to fix my car.

Were you driving?

Where I've lived it's shared fault if the drivers are both in the car at the time. If your empty parked car gets hit by someone driving I've never seen shared fault. But I never lived in Iowa either. That'd be a crap rule, bet you were pissed.

So I had a guy's parked car hit mine while I was inside a store(Oregon). We both had Statefarm at the time and Statefarm determined it would be HIS fault as he was at fault for not setting his parking brake. The unfortunate thing is not even a week later i totaled my truck which only had 15k miles on it. It's always the saddest, gut wrenching that anything could happen...hopefully these pictures make your damage seem not as bad..

Wow man, your pic makes me feel lucky knowing that most of the damage is replaceable parts. At least after looking at the car in daylight today none of my rear quarter panels, doors, or front fenders have any warping or damage to them.

Its just dealing with the other owners insurance "Allstate" i have to deal with.
