Safari LTD steering rack or OEM?

Hello Sir...can you please advise why the Safari rack is better than OEM? I Mean other than the obvious cost difference. Are you saying OEM has nylon gears??

Also, where did you get yours from? Does it come with a warranty??

Not gears, but bushings as jburt mentioned. Safari LTD in grand junction, co is where you get the rack.

It supposedly has brass linear bushings instead of nylon ones, but I don't think anyone had cracked it open to check.

As far as I know you can only get it from Safari Ltd. They have fantastic customer service. I can't remember about a warranty.

I did call them a few years ago before I bought my rack and the tech confirmed that it uses brass bushings

Thanks for the correction. I read bushing and ment to say bushings...but my dumb hands typed out gears!! I'm Sure if they say they are using brass bushings...I'm sure they are. It would be to easy to check to see otherwise.

My rack is just starting to leak...no puddles. But starting to see wetness on the rack. Sounds like this we be my replacement. That is...unless a win the lottery and can afford SAS :dancin:

Yes they are closed. I ahve talked with them. From what I got from them, they buy the rack. Do nothing to it and resell them. I believe they mislead customers saying they upgraded the racks.

That's the same thing I got when I called over the winter. Just OEM racks or risky aftermarkets left as options now.

If the bolts are seized or rusted then YES it's extremely difficult without air tools. Took heat, penetrant and a very long breaker bar and a couple of hours for just one bolt.
