Safari Snorkel interest.

There is a guy who I don't know the name of, but will try to find out, that is fitting ARB snorkels to the new 2012 Tacoma's here in the US under ARB's wing. This would hopefully be the case if it worked out for our 4runners.

I guess Airflow America ,out of Phoenix, went out of business as a their website is down. They were supposed to be working on one for the 5ths last year..... http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/81916-snorkel.html

Yeah its pretty sweet... what strikes me as a little strange is that they ordered me the Prado v6-4.0 snorkel from Seattle and its going to be here in 2-3 days!? Shame I cant get off work to do the install sooner!

I think your right about Airflow America as I experienced the same thing... I also always thought that the "Under construction" image that they had for the 5th Gen 4runner was a load of boloney made up in paint!

Will keep everyone posted, pretty pumped if this all works out!

That is if the splitter doesn't work.No body makes one in the glass though for 5ths but FM antennas are fairly simple with an aftermarket booster and can be hidden other places. What's AM????..... and rarely listen to FM anyway with Pandora and a loaded 160GB ipod tied to my Pioneer and another 48GB available to stream from my phone.New music on the phone and my classic rock on the ipod.

I'm having this conversation in this thread and in RiDE's thread...weird. I'll crosslink.

What I think I'll do is go ahead with this install and contact a CB shop and see if they have parts on hand.

If you're asking me about AM ...wouldn't a good HF Ham Rig be your best bet for monitoring AM stations? I think I personally will be ok with my Yaesu VX-8Rs for monitoring AM stations if the Firestick mod hampers AM reception. (though CB freqs are closer to AM than they are to FM)

Perfect timing, thank you very much for those measurements. I have sent them to the tech. I am planning to get this installed this coming Monday. Time will tell if she fits!

Cool...I'm still going to try and get photos of the Prado running around with a snorkel already installed for comparison's sake.
 
[email protected] Lets bring this thread back to life, if you have not done so please email arb and express your interest in a snorkel for your 5th gen 4runner.... Don't know about anyone else but I am not giving up just yet...

Sadly, I doubt it. Look at it this way - 3rd and 4th gen 4Runners and 2nd gen Tacos don't have snorkels either and there are way more of them out there than 5th gens. Everyone I know with one of those three trucks had to buy a snorkel made for a Hilux and modify it.

I think the best bet is to look at the snorkels made for a 1GR-FE and figure out which one is closest to fitting a 5th gen then modifying it. Another option is to contact a place like Cruiser Outfitters and see if they've looked at it. Here's what they have for fitting a snorkel to a 2nd gen Taco:

It is very unlikely that we will get a snorkel for the new 4Runners and they are only sold here. In order to develop the tooling for a snorkel body Safari has to have access to the vehicle and it would be too expensive to ship a 4Runner to Australia. It’s not hard, just very expensive to make a new snorkel.

Or they could send an engineer here to take the measurements and create a model, then go back down under and make it. People do this kind of thing all the time.

ARB could really do a lot more for North American vehicles if they would let ARB North America do what they need to do in order to be more successful in this country. The guys in Australia do not understand the American market. Hopefully it will happen. I know ARB North America wants it to happen. And P.S. the 4Runner is not just sold in North America. They have it in South and Central America too.
