Safari Snorkel interest.

Let's bring this thread back! I emailed them and this is their response.. We need more emails gentlemen!

Thank you for the email. We actually don't manufacture the snorkels, Safari Snorkel in Australia does. At this time they are not working on a snorkel system for the the 4Runner. Since they are in Australia, they do not have access to the vehicle (4Runners are North America only vehicle) so for them to develop a snorkel, they would need to import a vehicle into the country. They have done that in the past, however it was after several hundred product requests. As of today, I have only logged maybe 20 requests for the 5th ten 4Runner.

As of right now the company that has come closest to coming out with a snorkel is AIRFLOW AMERICA . I have called them a few times in the past to get updates and they kept saying there was a backlog at the manufacturing plant in australia and that it looks like the end of summer would be the release date (That was last summer) SO, can someone else call them up and ask for an update????

Hope you were counting me in that number...

Honestly I don't see it happening based on ARB's response to SEP and comments they made in reply to the same question on their Facebook page about a 4th Gen snorkel. They don't have a truck to test fit and we don't have the numbers to justify them getting one. Wonder if a 3rd Gen snorkel could be modded to fit a 5th Gen...

Yes, Marc .. I was including you, George and another 5th Gen owner.

I know, snorkels for the 5th Gen seem like a pipe dream but I'm already finding that some stuff designed for the Prado 150 is a direct fit. Maybe the fender mount for the Prado 150 safari snorkel can be tweaked to fit the side profile of the 5th Gen fender ...
 
Please excuse the ignorant question but is this a permanent install? Meaning, can snorkels be removed and some sort of thingy be installed to cover the hole? Or does the whole air flow issue make it impossible?

Very much a permanent install since you have to drill a large hole in the body of your truck. I've seen people cover it, but it looks like hell.
 
Safari snorkel feedback - no bueno

Just got this back after inquiring about the safari snorkel.


Sorry, nothing in the works. Not much interest yet. For a North American only vehicle, Safari Snorkels needs around 200 requests, we have logged maybe 30 since the 5th gen was released.

RIGHT! Its time for a guinea pig to step and have one made... then the rest of us can order one! So, who's it going to be? :spider:

If I could find the right person that was local to me in Denver, Co I would volunteer.

I think this will be the ONLY way we will see one, unless we wait four more years!
 
i've been looking into it for a while now....

the safari snorkel SS189HF is made for the 1GR-FE.

same engine as our 4runners.

the fender panel lines look very close to our 4runners with the same bulge.

I would venture a guess that the system would work. just that i dont have the money to order one to test fit myself.

Okay... I will order one and see what it would take to fit our 4runners. If its not possible... I will simply send it back. Hows that for a deal!

they run about 500 bucks so if you've got the coin please go for it.

i'm sure if we could give you rep you'd get infinite amounts :trophy:
