Safari Snorkel with a TRD CAI

Has anyone done a Safari Snorkel install with a CAI instead of the factory box yet or do I get to be the guinea pig?

Yes works fine. It pulls so much air it vibrates the grate on the snorkel. Intake pic was taken pre snorkel, but you can see it in my sig pic.

did you have to get any extra parts or does it bolt right up?

No Sir. The TRD intake fits in the factory cut out through the inner fender well and the snorkel is designed with a rubber flange included that fits through that cut out. You remove the TRD or factory flange and use the Safari flange. Anyone on here have pics of the flange? I didnt take any. I do have a short video of how well a jigsaw works for the cut out.

Thanks, I watched your jigsaw video and went out and bought the blades for my Dewalt. :thumb3:

Did you notice any improvement in gas mileage? I'm sure it's hard to judge with all that gear but doesnt hurt to ask right?! lol.

Sorry not trying to mislead anyone. No mileage or power gains.

We dyno'd my truck before and after the prototype was installed. The delta between the numbers was so small it was within the margin of dyno error.

Basically, no you don't gain any power. It's psychosomatic if you think you do.

[MENTION=124732]LawnDart[/MENTION], do you think a tuning would allow the ECU to take better advantage of the increased air intake, to provide more noticeable gains? Whether it comes from the CAI, or the Snorkel, or both in combination, I am wondering if that might be the limiting factor here?

Unless you have some kind of engine management hardware like an Access Port I wouldn't think you'd be able to tune on the factory ECU. They typically lock that down tight as a tick.
