Safe Wishes For Our Fl Members

In light of Hurricane Charley that's hitting the Florida coast, lets offer our wishes for safety (or prayers if you're religious) for our fellow members who live in the affected areas and that they (and their families/loved ones) stay safe and suffer no losses in this storm.

yep. I agree...but I'll say, let's pray (or send best wishes or whatever) to all those along the eastern coast and gulf of mexico as we enter a period of storms...I know we here are looking at our relief supplies and those of us in RACES are checking our ham radio batteries and "storm-packs"...

I also send my best wishes out to all those people in Florida. I just heard the weather report and they say that the entire east coast could get hit by this hurricane. It will not be the 145 mph winds, but they say maybe around 100 mph. :help:

Here's the projected storm track for the next three days. Looks like the entire Atlantic Seaboard is going to get wet.

Thanks to all for the wishes/prayers. This is a very dangerous storm, and unfortunately it is heading right for St. Augustine at this point. The good news is that is should be significantly weakened by the time it hits here.

My parents have a second home by Stump Pass, 7 miles north of Boca Grande. We are now wondering if they still have a home. At least it wasn't their lives as they are now in Georiga in their other home.

Right now it looks like all of Florida is covered by rain. My heart goes out to all the people in Florida.

Having gone through Hurricane Andrew in the early 90s, I still remember the 12 hours of constant wind howling, and the unbelievable amount of tree debris that littered my yard. Yet the house was safe, and after 7 days, we had electricity again. We were thankful, it could have been multiple times worse.

So my heart goes out for the people in Ft Myers, Sanibel and surrounding areas. And having lived in Tampa for two years, I know the area well, and I hope for the best for all in the West Coast area.

Just found out my parents house is still there. It turns out the North side of the storm has less damage than houses on the South side of the storm. It sustained damage, but it is still there.

Right now the storm is now in Orlando.

It looks like there were some deaths in Florida, especially in Punta Gorda. Charley came right through the middle of Florida and I am sure most of Florida felt parts of this storm.

Now it looks like South Carolina is getting hit.

Hey all, looks like Punta Gorda got hammered - the damage looks very bad Where I live up near Orlando we had a few tense moments as the hurricane swept right over us between about 9:15 to 10:00 last night. My neighbor had a few downed pine trees, fortunately my house appears to have made it throuigh unscathed but our power has been out since about 9:00 last night - we could see flashes of light when I guess tranformers were blowing up. I spent the morning cleaning up the yard and pool of lots of tree branches and debris.

I"m typing this over at my parents house (about 5 miles from my house) where my brother and his wife and son are visiting from New York. They lucked out and still have power. A limb from one of their oak trees fell into the yard by their driveway and it had a squirrel nest in it. The mother landed on the driveway and was dead looked like it had a broken neck, but the nest with 3 babies landed in the grass and were alive. They were very young and their eyes weren't even open yet. We stuck em in a shoebox with part of their nest and took them up to the local animal hospital so they should be okay.

There was a giant limb from an oak tree on the property across the street that was hanging precariously over the street. We looped a rope over the limb and used their Ford Expedition to rip it down. A house across the lake has a big oak tree that fell into their pool screen. Fortunately my parents' house appears to be undamaged - just lots of downed tree limbs. I guess we'll be camping out here til the power at my house comes back on.

This was one Friday the 13th I"ll never forget.

Just kidding :arrow: I really feel bad for all the folks still without power or even worse without a home. I only had to go without power at my house for about 42 hours and it sucked big time

Were you able to save any food in the freezer? We have a huge freezer and in the power went out we would lose a lot of food. Plus how did you manage at night with no lights or TV. I remember living in Key West for 2 years, I didn't have much money and I didn't have cable TV, the only channel I got was from Cuba. I read more books in those 2 years than at any other time.

I am glad your now OK. My parents house is right on the water and I am surprised that the tidal surge did not come over the sea wall. They were only 7 miles from the eye of the storm and the eye was 6 miles wide, so they were 4 miles away from the storm.

Yes we filled up a big cooler the morning after with lots of stuff and took it over to my parents house where they have an extra fridge in the garage. So fortunately we didn't have to throw much away. Glad to hear your parents are okay - they really lucked out. This hurricane was very strong but very compact which limited the swath of destruction. Several of my colleagues at work still don't have power at their home and I heard on the radio that it could be out all week for some folks here in O-Town.
