same shocks or no????

so I was wondering what shocks I would need. i have a 97 2wd and am going to probably get oem tokicos (not trekmasters) because I want a smooth/comfy ride rather than a stiff ride. i don't go offroad maybe the occasional dirt rode while camping. i do plan on getting 99 tall coils in the front soon and was wondering if I needed to order 99 shocks or would shocks listed for my 97 model be the same. being that the coils are taller for 99, are the shocks also longer as well. also, anybody know of something comparable to oem tokicos? looking for a nice daily ride 97% street driven. thanks if you can help.

The '99 'tall' shocks would not be the same as the 2WD. 2WD and 4WD shocks are different part numbers, and I don't think the '99 'tall' springs were offered on any 2WD trucks. My understanding is they only came on 4WD '99 trucks with 16" wheels from the factory.

That said, I have no idea if 'not the same' means 'won't work'. Your problem, if there is one, is not the years, but the 2WD/4WD. Shorter 4WD years used the same shocks as the 'tall' '99's.

So if I got the shocks from the 99 year, would they work properly with my 97 coils until I was able to get the 99 tall coils??? i guess i can search part numbers to see if they are the same but i doubt it.
