San Antonio Dealership Recommendation!!!

I want to thank BrentHernandez at ‪#‎RedMcCombsToyota‬. Red McComb's Toyota ran the most knowledgable and honest Service Department in the San Antonio area. And I visited or contacted every ‪#‎ToyotaDealership‬ (except Cavender, whos service department would not answer their phone). I have to say it pays to understand the vehicle's systems because all the other dealerships tried to convince me that I needed to spend a couple thousand dollars for an adjustment that took 15-minutes to make. I am a loyal Toyota enthusiast but this type of service department abuse almost convinced me to buy a Dodge Ram. I want Red McCombs ‪#‎Toyota‬ to know that their type of service convinced me to switch Service Departments and Dealerships to them.

I agree with what you've said about McCombs service dept. Best in SA.

Unfortunately, their sales dept. is the complete opposite. Cavender always beats McCombs pricing, but their service is not good.

There is no dealership in SA, including the one in Boerne that gets pricing and service right

If you need KDSS service in San Antonio go to Red McCombs

I want to pass along helpful information to anyone that may need KDSS service in San Antonio. Brent Hernandez at Red McCombs Toyota has the training and the HP pump to service the KDSS on your 4Runner.

After contacting the all the area dealerships, I learned I am not the only one here with this problem. Hopefully, I reach the other person with this information.

I needed fluid replaced in my KDSS system after a local shop bled pressure off to replace the rear sway bar. But that is another story. Anyway, I needed the fluid replaced and the system pressure restored. Every dealership, except Red McCombs, tried to convince me that I needed an entire new system. One quoted me $3,200. At a couple of the dealerships I showed the Service Writer a picture of the HP pump and the Toyota instructions on how to add fluid and charge the system at which point they completely ignored me. I even tried Lexus and they understood me but refused to service Toyotas.

I just wanted to save a fellow 4Runner enthusiast a lot of hassles and some money. I hope this helps.

Since July 2008, I have purchased 4 Toyotas from Javier Vasquez currently at NP. He has been awesome. He moved from TOB in August 2008 when TOB changed hands. The TOB owners and management moved to the south-side and became NP. And at that point new owners took over TOB. After that I can say that when I bought my 2010 FJ Cruiser, at NP they beat TOB by $6,000 out the door. It was a no-brainer.

But after this service fiasco with NP, I am going to give Red McCombs my next purchase. Unless, they absolutely refuse to give me a fair deal.

I have family and friends that work for Alamo Toyota off 281 and from all the people I've sent down their way I've gotten nothing but positive feedback. I may be biased ha, not sure how their service dept. is but sales is on point. Plus the dealership is LEED Silver certified which is cool imo.:tea:

(Sorry, for the rant, I have a lot of pent up hostility towards Alamo Toyota.)

Alamo Toyota's Used Car Manager screwed me after the deal. By definition, I later learned, Certified Pre-owned Vehicles are supposed to get both sets of keys and key fobs. When I closed the deal on my daughters, CPO, 2011 Corolla, I got one set. The Used Car Sales Manager said, I could buy another set for $250 from Parts. I was pissed. To paraphrase, he said, tough shit. My mistake and ignorance, I should have gone immediately to the Alamo Toyota GM.

Anyway, that $250 screwing cost them any future car sale business from me. And I expect to buy at least 9 more cars before I retire.

Are they that good that they warranted two threads within a few hours of one another ??

If I can inform one fellow 4Runner owner on where to get their KDSS serviced and not get screwed by a dealership then I have to say, "Yes!"

To be honest, I haven't heard of anyone needing KDSS service that wasn't caused by user error - in both cases I know of (including yours) someone manually bled the system either on purpose or accidentally.

It's bad enough when new threads are created rather continuing ones that haven't touched for a few weeks. Twice in one day is just ridiculous. Thanks for your contribution clogging up the forums to a thread that helps a handful of members and hinders the rest.

Someone on here has a GX470 with KDSS, and a leaking rear cylinder

Seriously, that got you upset? It clogged your forum?

I see lengthy write-ups and threads on how to install cup holders on your rear bumper and the science of cleaning your rear camera lenses.

Use the ignore button and don't follow my posts.

The problem isn't the content of the threads but the repetitiveness of it. I see you have only started two threads in the 5th gen section. I bet everyone can guess what the other is about. Sorry for assuming that you would understand.

I googled it over the past few weeks and there are a few cases of defects but the majority were caused by human error. The Lexus service departments had had experience with defective parts but they have had KDSS since 2003.

I feel like I've stumbled into an advertisement thread with an anti-semitic comment thrown in for good measure.

Not an ad. Sorry. I am just a very loyal Toyota enthusiast that is very disappointed to see Toyota dealers trying to overcharge their customers for service they don't actually need. I guess they are no different than any other brand.

And I am a friend of Brent's. He is active is the local Toyota off-road club. He is an FJ owner. We met at a Wrench Day at my house. But this is the first I had needed him to service my 4Runner. And I just want to let others down here know I found someone they can trust to work on their trucks.

Thanks for the info Misterquad, I have heard this about Brent also. That and I have been contemplating leaving NP service. Bought my t4r there and have had no problems. about 6 months ago i had oil changed at NP and had a set of new wheels on my truck that they were rotating for me. Long story short i noticed a center cap missing and inqured with the tech while he was finishing up an injector service. (wheel rotation was done for at least 30min) he acted clueless and found my cap on a work bench and installed it. Week later while washing my truck I noticed dried glue on the surface of the cap. They broke the cap and tried to glue it back together. Neglected to tell me about it and after several emails and conversations with promises to mail me a check for the replacement which I already purchased. I have yet to receive reimbursement. i don't live close to NP so trips there are a pain and rather than continue my business with someone who would do this I will move on. I also noticed i have several screws from the engine skid and spacer plate missing. Which are used to do oil changes. I'm sure there isn't much attention going into the service of my vehicle there..... I will continue my business with Brent at Red from now on.

BTW some other people must think they are forum :police: No harm in informing fellow members.

At NP is where I learned that someone else in San Antonio has a KDSS issue. Because Fred, the service writer, scolded me for asking for a quote. He said, I already went through this with you and gave you a quote. And I had to tell him that I had never discussed this with him. He was being a total jerk. I said if he had already given me price that I would not be here wasting my time and asking for a price now.

I just wish I knew who else was in there to send them to Brent.
