San Bernardino Shooting

Well at least one poster doesn't prefer knowledge.

No one is coming to take our guns, the irrational anger to that imaginary argument is amusing but I wish more people would join the adult conversation on ways to make our society safer from widespread gun violence.

Here's the thing ndcent, there are ALREADY plenty of research/data that CLEARLY shows that gun control does NOT work. Why fund more $$$$ (that is much needed elsewhere, like our military) into something that we already know??? Isn't that the definition of insanity? :D

Again, Paris attack is a prime example of this. NRA or not, terrorists will do their thing and soft spots will be the target.

"It (Islam) is not people, it is not race, it is not culture, and it is not time specific.

It is an ideology that is spread by violence and by the threat of violence.

In countries where the Islamists are the minority, they scream for minority rights.

In counties where they are the majority, there are no minority rights."

-Peter Hyatt

"What does the CA shooter, ISIS, Saudi Arabia, Paris shooters, 9/11 , and so on, all have in common?

They are different races, cultures, clans, tribes, languages, etc.

All are united under Islam.

It is the most powerful criminal ideology the world has ever known.

I am encouraged somewhat by Americans not buying MSM or "huffington post" or other nonsense, as they rush to justify Islam while claiming that white Christians are behind all the killings"

-Peter Hyatt

I have a coworker who was born and raised in Guadalajara. He came into work yesterday and the first thing he said to me was, "I think it's time for me to go Glock shopping. Dude, if you ever get any anti-gun thoughts in your head all you have to do is think about Mexico. The gun control laws are as strict there as anywhere. Look how well it's working out down there."

yay for informational videos

The government isn't going to flat out ban guns, they know if they do that they'll be immediate resistance. They're doing it methodically by making it harder and harder to own them. They know they can pass more strict gun laws little by little and it'll anger some people, but the vast majority will just take it as it comes. When it gets to the point of even owning a gun is like filing for a Class 3 weapons permit (several months of paper work, have to go through a lawyer, rigorous background checks) that is when the government has essentially banned guns. I honestly can't believe anyone still believes the liberal propaganda of "if we just make guns harder to get then there won't be any more terrorism or murder! Yay!" How could anyone be so simple minded?

This is how it is in Mexico. Mexican citizens can legally own a gun but the process to apply is prohibitively expensive and long. Also, there's only one gun store in the *entire country* where you can legally purchase a firearm. How well are these policies working out for them?

Considering the vehicles we all own and love can cause more damage and carnage faster than any gun available, and are harder to stop, I suggest we ban SUV's, and prevent people on the no-fly list from getting driver's licenses.

I see you're familiar with straw men. "Guns!? But look over there!"

The idea that just yesterday republicans voted down two common-sense gun bills that would have expanded background checks to cover all commercial gun sales and prevented suspected terrorists from legally buying guns -- a measure first proposed by the Bush Administration is totally insane.

Honestly, talking about gun control at this point is entirely semantics. If criminals and terrorists can access military grade firearms anywhere in the world(or smuggle them there), regardless of a particular region's gun laws, we have a much bigger problem than legislature. All those laws do is throttle the law abiding public's ability to defend themselves.

I'm pretty sure explosives licenses are ridiculously tightly restricted, yet the san bernadino killers had bombs too. If you are banned from legal purchase, the black market will always come through in a pinch. Alternately, with the right know how, you can buy off the shelf ingredients and components to make any weapon you desire.

My point is, the answer to reducing and maybe one day eliminating heinous acts of terror lies elsewhere. Tying ourselves up over gun control legislation is doing exactly one thing; pitting us against one another. Why are we arguing? We ALL agree that this killing has to stop. Collaboration is the key to a true solution, not division. I have no idea WHAT the answer is, but I think we can all agree that the current discussions taking place here and around the country are making absolutely no headway to a real solution.

Tashfeen Malik, Mother in San Bernardino Massacre, Pledged Allegiance to ISIS Leader: Sources - NBC News

Thanks Brian for giving updates!

Love this part:

The revelations came just hours after Farook's brother-in-law insisted the slain suspect was an observant Muslim but not a "radical" and never gave any indication of what may have motivated him and his wife to attack the city's Inland Regional Center with four guns and explosives.

-------------------------------------------------------

Only idiots (aka liberals) believe this statement from bro-in-law. Oh wait, our esteem President still thinks that this may have been workplace violence! :frusty:

Even the Tsarniovs family said they were great boys.

This brother knows. It is well documented that the Tsarniovs family, mother in particular has stated to multiple people that 9/11 was a US conspiracy against her people. With people always playing the victim, in their minds, the relatives of these sickos (not all Muslims duh) even after committing mass murder still believe the US is to blame.

The brother is pissed off he says. I bet. Has he said he blames radicalism? No. He's probably even now justifying how his brother, the killer, was the victim.

We saw the same thing after France. Next the US media will start to talk about how this young man felt oppressed by our secular society. Listen for the phrases "how can the US help with the fact that ______ feel oppressed by secularism" this line of discussion is all about shifting the conversation to paint the killers as victims.

It isn't a conspiracy, it is just that groups like CAIR shift the conversation this way and the politically correct US media is dumb enough to fall for it. Even on NPR they were interviewing people in France who gave lots of airtime to discuss how ______ feel repressed by the West's secular (non Sharia) society and that leads to them rising up. It is total BS but the media runs with it anyways.

I was also just thinking about another good point: imagine a world without guns.

NO GUNS.

No violence? dead wrong. Humans have been bludgeoning, torturing, and slicing each other to bits for millennia. If we could wave a magic wand and make all the guns disappear we would go right back to killing each other with medieval tools of war. As cynical as this may be, I would prefer being shot over being mauled with a war hammer 11 times out of 10.

Its not a matter of what weapons we use. Its purely a matter of human psychology. And from what I've seen and learned in my short time on this earth, the average person is easily capable of unspeakable savagery. We are also capable of incredible acts of selflessness and generosity. Maybe if we invest more time and energy into finding way to make ourselves and our neighbors better people we might find the answer.

Here are two articles worth reading on gun control:

Gun Control Isn't Crime Control - ABC News

Note: these two articles are NOT from NRA or other pro-gun sites! They are from traditionally liberal sites! :thumb:

Still want to throw more money at promoting a stupid idea??

The couple will be revered...probably receive status of martyrs among Sunni inner circle! The infant that was left behind will be treated like a prince until his time comes to show his faith.

UPDATE: Loretta Lynch, at a press conference yesterday, termed the San Bernardino shootings a "wonderful opportunity" to change the nature of police work:

We’re at the point where these issues have come together really like never before in law enforcement thought and in our nation’s history and it gives us a wonderful opportunity and a wonderful moment to really make significant change.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Is that true or taken out of context???

I disagree with the statement that conversations here are the problem or not making headway.

Putting your head in the sand in the name of political correctness is not the solution. That is what got us here in the first place.

These conversations are having real affects on US politics. The Keep America Safe Act, now on its way to the Senate is a direct result of Americans deciding to have a conversation.

I'll try to keep the conversation on track. More voices are welcome. Anyone who doesn't want to talk about this is free to click elsewhere.

Conversations on the internet or TV did not kill those people. Radical believers who pledged allegiance to ISIS did.

Free speech is not the enemy, it is not the danger.
