Satellite Radio??

Just bought a new 4runner 07 sport with the 6 disc changer and Satellite capability... apparently satellite capability means i have to spend an additional $389 for the parts to get my satellite radio working without getting a gaudy display from Sirius....oh...yeah and the installation is apparently a 5 hour installation which will be an additional 450 bucks... i spent 35 grand on a 4runner and i have to spend another grand just to hook up my "satellite capability" HA!

I talked to a salesman at a local toyota dealership and he says he knows a guy that will hook up some sort of modulator to pick up sirius through my 6 disc changer for 100 bucks, anyone know of any cheaper ways to get sirius or xm to work on my 6 disc changer without spending a grand.... Thanks for the advice in advance!!

Congrats on the new 4Runner and welcome to the forum.

The dealer installed sat setup for the 4runner is indeed expensive, however there are less expensive choices available.

You should be able to find a sat system that will integrate into your existing JBL system for under $200 plus installation. I had planned to buy the Terk XM Direct until I found out the unit had been discontinued because a new smaller until will be out later this year or early next year. If you're comfortable with performing the install yourself you'll save yourself some money.

I used to own a prius...lol, not much compared to my 4runner but the gas mpg was great!

Anyways, there were a few options for that car with a stock radio from toyota. I had bought a unit from Sirius prius.com, that plugged directly into the unit.

Talk to your parts dept and ask them if the plug is the same for the back of a prius-solara and if it is, you have a few options.

Whatever you do, DO NOT USE the FM Modulator!!! You'll get too much static and drop outs using the fm modulator. Do you have an AUX input going to your radio? A cheaper alternative is to take the 1/8" audio out (from your sat. radio unit) and plug directly to the AUX IN, you won't get drop outs that way.

not trying to hijack the thread but i do have the jbl and am interested in the same thing. i'd like to get sirius (and my ipod) to work in my 4runner with factory headunit control of both.... possible??

Yeah i have the 10 speaker JBL system, and I love it, I just wish there was a cheaper way to get satellite radio.

There is a way for much cheaper....

Vais tech SLS and SL2s is a Sirius + Aux input adapter. No one has anything that gives you Ipod control + Sirius control. It's either IPod + Aux input or Sirius + Aux input. So you could technically do the Ipod interface and get an external sirius module and run the audio through the Aux input. OR You could do the Sirius module and run the ipod through the aux input which is what I would do and here is why...

Ipod control through these aftermarket pieces are generally limited. Some of them require you to have a playlist and thats the only way to access music. To me that blows, but I also don't have an ipod.

The modules are the same price I believe... right around $300. If you do the Ipod interface that requires you to buy an external sirius display, you will end up paying another $130 atleast for a decent sirius unit.

Using the Sirius module you have to buy a universal tuner... which run $100. Then you'll need a headphone -to- rca cable which runs about $10.

So you come out around $20 cheaper, have full control over your ipod, and the sirius text is displayed on the unit and there are no limitations.

is the adaptor the dealer uses the one that they charge 400 bucks for, plus another 400 for installation?

If so what is the adapter called online, and how do i install it myself?

you have to pull out your head unit and just follow the directions their not hard to do u unplug a wire and plug it into the box and then plug some wires u unplug into the box.
