Yea it was a pain on the taco, I never did it but was envious of those that did. I went with the large diamond mesh, powder coated. You just have to do all trimming yourself.

I got 12x48. They are like an inch apart whereas the stock grill is 1.5 apart. It was the closest I could find tho. And I may do the lower grill in the same eventually.
I would definitely love to do this mod. Ever since I saw this on the Tacomas, I thought it was a great exterior fix. I'm glad to see that looks just as great on our 5th gens.
A few questions that I have:
Do you have to do any fiberglass work to it like the Satoshis on the Tacoma?
How do you have the new grill mounted (zip tied, bolted, etc)?
So I'm guessing it is as easy as it looks, take the grill off the truck, take a dremel to the grill, trim the new piece and somehow attach it and then get yourself the obligatory TOYOTA badge.
For Jesse: Which grill was it? I looked and there are a few different versions. Did you get the flat or regular and what kind of black was it?

nope
the front/painted part of the grill shell is connected by screws to the back. Once you cut your mesh or whatever you can lay it in there, put it back together, and use the screws to hold everything together. I have two small zip ties holding the bottom of mine together, but I'll most likely change that.

Question about taking the grill off the truck:
After taking the cover off to get into the front of the truck,
I took out 4 small phillips head screws in the center holding the grill to a crossmember that attaches deeper close to the engine.
Then I took out the pop out push pins.
How many screws and what type are still holding it in? It looks like there are screws holding the painted grill body to the painted pieces that go around the headlights.

Playing around, wondering how the Satoshi would look on a Silver TE. Unfortunately the front end is very dark in the original picture (only one I got), hard to tell how this would look. I don't think it screams 'AWESOME' like on the Magnetic Greys though :biggrin2:

After you take the cover off that has a million push-pins, take out one bolt holding the center of the grill down. Then there are two push-pins on each side. After they are out it's all clips that are holding it on. The hardest ones to release are on the sides by the headlights attaching the grill to the bumper cover. I think the screws you removed attach the painted piece of the grill to the back half. They won't help you get the whole thing off.
This is the one I got. I painted the white letters mag grey though to match the truck. It was just a little too aggressive for me being white

I just masked mine off, not sure what color to do for my black SR5. Might do it in either flat black or chrome to match the rest of my trim. The only thing about flat black is the rest of the grille and car is black lol. I'm lost.

that's just a mock-up, right? the real TOYOTA emblem fills far more of the grille.
