Savage Rear Bumper w/ Tire Carrier

For you guys who own this bumper, how do you like it?

I've been eyeballing it pretty seriously and have been checking out as many pictures as I can find. The one thing I haven't been able to find is a good picture of how the latch works for the tire carrier. If someone has a good picture of it or can snag a picture that would be fantastic!

I'll be pairing it with the Addicted Offroad plate bumper on the front. I think it will go well enough with the tube out back.

Also I've been trying to decide what to paint them... Sliders will be black but I'm toying with the idea of color matching the bumpers my cladding...

I have the non-swing-out tube bumper and love it. Great for the price and very high quality.

He uses a spring loaded T handle that you pull out and rotate 90* to engage/disengage. There is a separate "knob" that creates tension between the swing and the main bumper to keep it from rattling, which was my other main concern. I'll put up some pictures later.

I've been eyeballing your ride a lot looking at that bumper (yours and 98_4runnerSR5). I wasn't a huge fan of tube bumpers but for some reason Savage's looks awesome to me. I'm hoping it will pair well with the AOR up front with its hybrid sort of design.

Savage is the only one offering a tube swing option so that sealed the deal for me. I put about 300 miles on it over the weekend after putting on Friday morning and am pretty happy. It is completely silent which was the one unknown on this purchase.

I think it is actually a light tab and it is included on the bumper, but I plan to try and use it as a CB mount.

EDIT:

I have the same bumper and yep that's a mount for a cb antenna.

Have you mounted an antenna on it? My CB setup should be here this week.

Installation is easy. Just let the bumper hang on the end of the frame rails by the top plate and bolt it in. I recommend installing the base before attaching the swing just to make it lighter for install. My order did not include the 4 bolts that go through the bumper where the factory tow hooks are. I am thinking he intended for you to use the factory bolts, but mine were too corroded. Haven't been able to find replacements locally yet.

I have the Savage rear bumper, however I wish I would have gotten the tire carrier with it. The bumper is great and quality it top notch. I coated it with Herculiner and love it. I will have to say installation was a snap...... once I got the corroded tow hook bolts out. Geeeez, that was a pain. I rounded the bolt heads, ground them off, drilled for days, (please use a new drill bit if you have to go this route), then re-tapped the threads.
Install went well. Holes lined up, fit was great, and it seems to be very sturdy. I pull a trailer with two ATV's through the mountains two or three times a month.
I am beginning to consider adding the tire carrier which Roy offers the option to do. However, I would have to position it and weld it on myself or have a local fab shop do it.

One thing that the install made clear was how well built this bumper is. Roy does a fantastic job. That being said all of these trucks are different in their own little way. Once I got everything torqued down I put some weight on the bumper and bounced on it. I heard a little clunk. The clearances are so tight that the little tabs from the body were coming in contact with the bumper. From truck to truck though one might touch and another might not.

I took the bumper back off and just pounded the tabs up and out of the way. They are so soft you might be able to bend it with your hands. It was only about a half and inch wide piece that touched. So if you own a bumper and you hear a clunk its not the bumpers fault. Check ou the little tab and see if you have it coming close.
