Say no to front sway bar

Does anyone in this forum have any experience with driving their fourth GEN without a front swaybar? Just want a little bit more articulation but I don’t want to sacrifice too much on the highway

Depends on your center of gravity, and spring setup. It's doable.

Get some heavier coils in there and don't jack it to the moon it'll drive fine.

But if you're lifted and heavy already, you shouldn't be doing any emergency maneuvers on the highway. Increase your following distances and slam on the brakes instead of swerving which is probably good advice regardless of vehicle.

Just throw it back on if you don't like it, though I doubt many have.

I pulled mine off and never looked back. Depending on the suspension you run, you wont even notice much of a difference with on road. (Unless you drive your t4r like a corvette).

As long as you have stiffer springs to compensate you wont even notice.. I havnt had mine on in years.. The back one however does make a huge difference and i recommend keeping that on for street driving.. However there are some who leave it off.. I drove with both off for a while and missed how well it handled with the rear back on..

Since my first 4runner, and everyone since, one of the first things I did/do is to pull the front sway bar off when installing the lift.
If you drive it like a lifted SUV you're going to be fine. If you drive it like a sports car, Id leave it on.

I'm used to driving lifted trucks so I pulled both of mine out and its WAY more comfortable driving over bumps. It used to be jarring driving up a driveway bump or any kind of bump at an angle, it would toss me side to side quite a bit. Now its smooth as ever and I'm not getting thrown around at all in the seat. A little more sway around turns is fine with me and don't make any quick maneuvers on the freeway or you may end up with a brown seat :naughty:

No f or r on mine. I have Icon with 700lb springs up front with cdcv set to 4. Rear Icon set to 1. I also have a rtt. It sways but not bad. If I stiffen the Icons up it is like stock.

I'm different than these other guys. I removed rear sway bar because I couldn't keep links on it and noticed little impact in handling. I tried removing the front sway bar but it handled terrible on the road, never even got to try it offroad with no front sway. Living in Indiana I have to cover lots of highway miles to get to cool stuff so I opted to leave the front sway bar installed. Also I came from driving more performance oriented vehicles before the 4runner so I just can't stand all the sway with no front sway bar.

But have you tried it with no front w/rear installed?

Maybe this is already obvious to some but what I'm saying is maybe as long as one bar is installed you will notice an improvement over no bars.

No, I broke a rear sway mounting bolt off and I'm not drilling that mo-fo out! lol Plus I like the super flexy rear. The front will never flex that hard. Really the best of both worlds is disconnects on all 4 corners but there's not an option out there that I like enough to go for.

It would be nice to try rear only with disconnects and throw the front away. Maybe a project for next year.

Don't let anyone fool you-- there is unquestionably a detrimental impact on handling characteristics when removing one or both of the sway bars.

It's not insurmountable-- plenty of people on here (myself included) run no sways at all. Whether taking the sway bars off your 4Runner for the first time or buying one that doesn't have sway bars on it upon purchase (like mine), you have to adjust your brain a little to take this into account.

For me, the most noticeable aspects of driving a lifted truck without sway bars are in fast, tight corners and on the highway. Not in how it behaves on the highway in general, but in the consequences of making a quick, reactionary movement-- like swerving to avoid something. The truck is much more to manage in instances like this, but it is totally manageable if you keep in mind the nature of how the weight will shift back and forth until it's properly controlled.

Dang...I roll with mine on the street at F-6 R-8 with both front and rear sways. But...I like to drive like a sports car on and off road. Off road I go F=2 R-3. Softens up the ride but still provides some good control. I tried taking the sway off before and didn't like it. Maybe I'll try it again to see how it is now that I have the adjustable fronts. I didn't before.

This question has been beaten to death on this forum and others. Take them off, see if you like it or not. Don't do it on stock suspension. /thread

I drive for awhile with out the front seat bar because the bolts broke inside the frame. I used a solution I found online to reinstall the away bar to pass VA inspection. Details are in my build thread.

That's too stiff for me. I could go less on the front offroad with better bumpstops.

Removed mine when I installed the daystar lift on the Xreas a few weeks ago, was planing to re-install, but have been busy. I can feel the difference, nothing too bad, after I install a proper coil-overs I’ll decide if it really needs to be in place.

I’ve gone swaybar-less on 2 Tacoma’s with proper coil-over setups, no issues at all !

i like to drive mine like a corvette so i've always left mine on. never needed any more articulation than what it offers, soooo unless you're doing some really wild wheeling you'll probably be fine with it on.

time to get rid'a that XREAS.

I decided to remove both front and rear sways once I installed my King 2.5's. I have gotten used to it already. It's worth the performance benefits IMO.
