Say hello to a new front end every 60k. The only dcj product I'd even consider is a wrangler and that's primarily based on resale value. I wish you the best of luck.
Not trying to sound negative, but I have personally witnessed the attitudes of the plant workers doing assembly who don't give a crap at dcj.

A friend of mine had 2015 Wrangler purchased it new. After putting up with the leaking roof and the kids getting car sick it the back from all the swaying and movement he traded after a couple of months for a new TRD 4Runner. Said the Jeep was one of the worst things he ever owned and the T4R one of the best.

I meant that literally (a little bit of snark was intended, but not a lot), it's based off the Fiat 500X. It's not really an "off-road" Jeep in-so much it's a Fiat 500L that can do gravel road more. It's Fiat's attempt to use the Jeep brand to fill the small CUV market niche and along with the Compass try to use Jeep to gain market ground in overseas markets.
I was curious why they went from a 4Runner to a Jeep-styled 500L of all things.

I was expecting the comments and understand all of the reasonings for them and even I'm a little concerned. At this point, we need to drive cheaper and I won't buy a car and we got burned pretty bad by our last used so we're going in a completely new way. Like I said, I am a little worried because all I've driven is Toyota. I may hate it. I may love it. Won't know until I try but our reasonings come down to price tag, mpg, etc.
Buy a cheaply made brand new Jeep with a 36k full warranty for a few yesrs or a well used Toyota and were on our own. We've always gone with used.... this is the first brand new car we've ever gone with.
I made the post cause I'm pretty sad to retire the best and first vehicle I've ever owned.

Then why retire it? At 300K it can't have that much value can it? If it's bought and paid for, might as well keep it.

+1. The money you'll spend on car payments on the jeep would more than pay for the little bit of extra gas in the Runner. Even if something big goes out, you're still money ahead compared to a car payment.

We are at the point of replacing a lot if we keep driving it. Everything is just Old! Tires, hoses, ac, sparks, drums, alignment are all needing attention. Just not worth the $$$ to keep it going at this point. We've still got our 2008 so it's not like I'm abandoning runners altogether ... just getting a taste if a different brand for once.

That stinks. I had an 03 sold it.. wish I never had. It's hard to change to anything else other than Toyota once you get one.

Those items probably add up to 2 months of new car payments. I think you have 'car fever.' if it truly is about $$....put the NUMBERS down on paper.
I understand your logic. However, you've had very good luck with Toyotas so why change? Surely you know most other makes don't commonly get 300,000 miles like these do. I know there are plenty of good vehicles out there much more reliable than jeeps so hopefully you will do your research. Good luck to you whatever you choose. [emoji106]

I feel the same way when I sell cars. I wish I never sold my 1993 Lexus SC300. Had 94k on it. stock.
Just had timing belt done. Traded it in cause a jerk of a friend drifted it into a curb and smashed the trailing arm and caused this wierd "whomp whomp whomp" noise when going above 30mph. had it checked by mechanics but they never did figure it out.
Was a sweet ride. 5k in plumbing, intercooler and turbos would have been way better than the 2005 Acura TL I traded it in for!
oh well, now I have my 4runner. No regrets and my sister is driving the TL.

A guy could pay himself the car payments of a new car and keep his old car that he loves.
Then when the old car breaks, there's an account full of money to fix it with. And if nothing ever breaks, there's still an account full of cash.
If the 4Runner does everything needed and is running fine, then I have a hard time hearing the argument that buying a new car is going to be cheaper in the long run.

Not to mention that Fiat is going to break down as soon or sooner than the maintained 4runner. And after that 36k warranty is up, it won't be worth much and will probably cost more to maintain.

I find it hard to rationalize why you should get rid of it when maintaining the 4runner for another who knows how many thousands of miles it has left in her. Those car payments will add up to more than just putting money into the 4runner and keeping your trusty rig. BUT it is your life. Congrats on hitting 300k, that is quite the feat!

I guess sometimes you need to drive a Jeep to find out you don't like driving Jeeps.
