Hey guys,
I had owned my 07 V8 SR5 for a little more than a year. I had some work done to it three months ago. Seat was noisy, exhaust tick, sulfur smell, and the water pump was leaking. Three months went by and the exhaust smelled worse, it started to tick again, the seat was squeaking, and it drank a half gallon of coolant (not sure where that went). I had contacted the dealer a month ago to express my concerns and he sounded puzzled but did not have a car for me to drive so I could not drop it off. He also told me the shop was booked because they were doing frame recalls on the Tundras. I let it go and then Friday I had a chance to stop in there for an oil change. I had asked another service guy why no one got back to me and he could not figure out why. There were no notes in the system about my phone call. He said he would check into it and then I had asked about the rust spots on my tail gate. He looked me straight in the eye and told me that he has never seen that before. Strange because I thought there was a TSB out for that. Friday night I saw a new Durango drive by me. I decided to look at them Saturday morning. Long story short, I left the T4R at the Dodge dealer and bought a new Durango. I have enjoyed my time here and appreciate all the help that I got from you guys. I truly did learn a lot. Unfortunately I was unable to find an actual dealer that wanted to work on my Runner. If anybody needs a shadow grey Runner, it is in Appleton WI right now. My guess is it will end up on the Toyota lot. Be safe guys and girls and make sure to keep it on two wheels.

Hope you have better luck with Chrysler than I did. I got a lemon and they refused to take it back, even after lemon law. So I filed law suit and won, they took the Chrysler 200 back and I payed 5,000 off on my 4Runner. (The 200 was my girlfriends, but it was in my name)

My 03 SR5 V8 has none of the problems you stated, you might end up coming back because my cousins are actually in the process of suing Chrysler, too. They have a 2012 Durango 5.7. Once they are done with Chrysler they said they are buying a Sequoia.

Every manufacture has some bad ones that slip through. Then there are ones that people done take care of, I've had many Dodge/Chrysler products in the past with great success. My 99 Dodge Ram was to date one of the best vehicles I've owned to date, also my Audi which most people would consider unreliable has been problem free for almost 100,000 miles other than a PCV recall item.
 
  • Exhaust tick: Did you have the manifold replaced? If so and it starting ticking again, it's the shops fault or defective manifold (somehow). Either way, shouldn't have happened.
  • Seat popping/ticking: again, this is "normal" b/c MANY go through this. Me included.
  • Sulfur smell: lots of info on here on how to get rid of that (TSB on it I believe).
  • Coolant: should've gotten a compression check on all cylinders, could be a head gasket going.
  • Inept dealer: should've found another one.
  • Rust spots: Why would it be abnormal?? Rust can be form basically anywhere on the truck. Previous owner probably didn't take care of it?

The above statements are me thinking about loud (don't know the WHOLE story). Sorry to hear your 4Runner gave you grief, but they are STILL solid trucks IMO. I will not own another truck that isn't a Toyota (Lexus). I've had nothing but solid/reliable vehicles from them. Anyway, Good luck on your Durango. Chrysler has kicked me in the nuts too many times for me to go back and purchase one of their mickey mouse vehicles.

But a engine that's been well taken care of and that's knocking at just under 3,000 miles? Hmm, just sounds like typical Chrysler to me. They have also already had to replace the whole exhaust system.
 
The first dealer that was closest to me had a drunk service advisor. They claimed to have changed the oil, diff fluids, and transfer case but none of which showed up on the final repair order. The second dealer I took it to was about a 30 minute drive for me. They had replaced the driver side manifold but it started to tick again. The driveline clunk darn near threw me through the intersection one day as I got off the highway. The funny thing is they claimed to had put grease in it again on Friday and it still clunked when I got home. They replaced the driver side cats and the sulfur smell remained. When I first bought the truck the dealer said watch out for rust on the tail gate. My brother went home and checked and his 08 had already had one rust spot. I am still leary as to where the coolant went. It is not on my garage floor so it was not looking to good to me. Yes every vehicle can have problems but when the dealer does not step up to fix them, it gets frustrating. My sister in law went through a Saturn that drank oil, a Cougar that could not shift correctly, an Escape that the dealer cracked the transfer case on, and an Explorer that clunked you out of the cab. All in all she went through 5 brand new vehicles in five years. The Durango to me looks nice and I can start over. The T4R is nice but enough was enough. I start school again tomorrow and did not want that headache with everything else. Thank you again guys for listening to my gripes. The Sequoia is too big for me but maybe some day I will be back here lingering in the forum.
 
Wow you had bad luck! I think I am going to sell mine soon. I never had any issues but I am wanting a newer Sequoia.
 
As much as I have come to disslike my 4runner I have to say a chrysler would be last on my lsit of vehicles to replace it. I wish you luck with your new truck. Im currently looking at Titans and sossibly the Armada, The wife really like the Denali...... still not sure.

keep lookin. i work for a Toyota dealer and my best friend is a master tech at a Nissan dealer....you douldnt believe some of the stories he tells me. he had a Armada and got rid of it within 2 years b/c of all the issues he would have to fix daily.

Denali's are nice though...dont hear anything abnormal with those things. id buy one.

Titan is cool of you want one of the least fuel efficient trucks on the market and comes complete with toothpick axles.

The Denali is a solid truck though for the most part. Cheap GM interior and tie rods and knock sensors that fail like its their job, but overall solid product. I am a die hard GM guy when it comes to light duty pick ups.
 
Sorry for the bad experience, hope you have better luck with the Durango. You don't hear these issues with Toyota too often.
