Anyone using on one their 4th Gen?

I had a check engine light come on which turned out to be that fuel cap thing, but in the process cleared the zero point calibration which I ended up fixing too.

I wanted to get something I can keep installed for those types of situations but also wanted to monitor trans and engine temp and keep tabs on the charging system.

Any pro/cons or other products to check out?

I would mind something that just works over Bluetooth to an iOS device like a iPhone or iPad...

I'm a huge SGII fan. I move mine between about 3 trucks I drive regularly and really just need to buy a 2nd one. The ability to monitor trans temps is huge for me, and I just like the overall real time, digital info it provides. I would NEVER go with an IOS or Android type setup for one reason, I'm always doing something else with those while I drive. They're always being used as a GPS or music player, I really like the simplicity of the SG to just give me car info without having to search for it.

Same thing I do.. Monitoring Trans temp while towing or off-roading is highly recommended.

I have one in the same spot. Great to monitor trans temp. I also use it as a speedometer since mine is off a bit due to larger than stock tires. The SGII lets you specify a correction factor, which I set by trial and error using a GPS.

Varies, but usually in the 140-190 range in typical mixed highway/city driving. I see it climb to ~210-220 occasionally if I'm in the mountains. This is with no external trans cooler BTW.

Same here...I'm usually around 150-170 degrees depending on the skinny-pedal and floor ratio...in the hills (above 8k feet) I'm running in the 180s without too much issue...the SW front bumper allows a lot of air for cooler to breathing over the OEM bumper...at least in my experience...it's about 10 degrees difference...not much but an improvement...

**There are two different transmission temperatures you can get...one at the tranny-pan and one at the torque converter...depending on which one you throw in will give you different temps...the TC temp is the ideal one to rock over the pan temperatures...you can look up the different "codes" needed for the transmission temperatures...

This interests me but I can only find 1 for '05 and I have no idea what I used when I set it up years ago. Any help appreciated!

Pretty similar to what's been posted already.

Highway (65-75 mph): 150-170
Stop and go: 185 and gradually creeps up towards the engine coolant temp ~195-200

Off road: 185 up to 220 depending on speed, climb and/or what my gear load out is.

Thinking of upgrading the V8 heat exchanger to something a bit larger

Trans temp is usually what's called an Xguage addition, which you can easily program in yourself. Scangauge is really helpful on the phone if you can't figure it out with their online instructions. Otherwise I can't see what would need to be preprogrammed. They will read most any common perameter of any OBDII vehicle, with the exception of fuel pressure, which in my experience most cars won't display.

curious... why do you prefer monitoring the torque converter temp? it jumps around quite a bit. programming an Xgauge for the pan temp provides a much more consistent value, which seems more meaningful for the purposes of monitoring.

also chiming in here to say that i really like my SGII and prefer this dedicated piece of "old school" tech mounted unobtrusively (but very functionally) on my steering column to fiddling with yet another mobile app.

Ha, it's kind of funny to think of a SG as old school but I know just what you mean, comparing it to mobile apps. I recently sold a Sportsmobile, a 95 Ford van which was pre OBDII and I had to mount analog guages on a pillar pod just to get trans temp and a couple other things. Now THAT was old school, and boy did I so wish I could just plug in the SGII!!!!

ha! yeah, i hear you. it's just that now that we're well into the 21st century, a basic LCD with a couple of fixed, squishy rubber buttons is pretty decidedly "old school" when we all have wafer-thin, biometrically-secured, voice-controlled, Internet-connected, capacitive touchscreens in our pockets. :cell:

Luv my scanguageII. tells you all you need, plug it in when you need it, set it on the dash and use it, read and clear codes, unplug and toss it in the console rest of time

Agreed. I like the Ultragauge too but the it doesn't seem to measure up to the SC in the reviews. Cheaper though!

I just plugged in my SGII in the 4Runner today and figured out it wedges perfectly between the cluster and steering column. Nice tight fit but not too tight.

I use a Bluetooth obdii reader and torque when i actually want to pay attention to things. Didn't want or need a dedicated scanner full time.
