ScanGauge II as anyone used it?

My wife got me one for my birthday recently, i have really enjoyed using it. I haven't found a good permanent mounting place for it in the vehicle yet because i've been using it in several of my families vehicles for checking engine codes.

The only downside i've found of it so far is you can only fit 4 things on the screen at once! lol, its hard to determine exactly what i want it to show me. I haven't messed around at all with programming in extra things. I know some folks program it to read out trans temp for the auto's.
 
I've had mine for almost a year and love it! I currently use it for water temp, avg mpg, real time mpg, and air intake temp to monitor the air temp coming from my turbo.
 
Priceless little gadget IMO, I just wish my '96 could display trans temperature. Really helped me out a few times identifying CELs and such, and nice for keeping track of MPG. Can track distance to empty as well, nice to have with our notoriously flaky fuel gauges when you get near "E."
 
I don't know that I would say any of the things it displays are absolutely necessary, but, if you enjoy reading stats/read outs about your truck, it's awesome
 
Ive had a scan gauge in my car since 2008. I swear by them. It reads my codes, shows me my temps and calculates my avg.

I use trans temp/water temp/gas mileage avg/gas instant.

I can't speak for the scanguage, but I have an Ultragauge and it has been very helpful. The UG has more gauges at once and is cheaper.

Either way, it's nice to have gauges for things that aren't displayed by the gauge cluster (like engine temp. in my work car). It's also nice to view and clear codes without needing a mechanic or auto store.
 
Just got one

Just picked a Scan Gage 2 at Advance Auto Parts for $120, it was on sale for $139 and I had a 20% off coupon for signing up for email. Just started playing with it but I think it's got lots of potential.

Lol ok.. yes that's one of the reason why i wanted it because i want to install a tranny temp gauge now if this scanner can give me an accurate reading of my temp gauge i may give up on a separate gauge for the tranny what do you think? Thanks for your input btw...

I've never been a fan of pillar gauges, aesthetically speaking, especially for the 4Runner, so you know my vote for which gauge to use. ;)

Every vehicle is different in terms of what the SG/UG can read, it depends on what protocol the ECM is using. But if it can read trans temp. then you will have a highly accurate reading, as it is coming straight from the vehicle's computer.
 
I've been using one for nearly two years now, and I like it a lot. I display water and inlet air temp (which is close to ambient while you're moving) MPG, and voltage. I understand that it's possible to display trans temp on a '00 model, but I haven't bothered to read up on it yet.

I'll get an occasional P420 (converter efficiency) code when I go from FL to VA and the weather changes drastically, so it's nice to be able to read it on the fly, know it's nothing pressing, and reset it.

Money well spent IMO. My only real gripe is that there's not a good mount for it. They could have at least put some threaded holes on it so it would be easier to fabricate something. I'm not a fan of using double sided tape for stuff that's going to be permanently installed.

Does it plug into the obd ii?

I haven't actually programmed mine to do trans temps, and i don't think it would anyways since mine is a manual transmission
