yeah, i think you could get clever and hide it in some different ways, otherwise it would be no different than a gps on the dash

I've never been a fan of pillar gauges, aesthetically speaking, especially for the 4Runner, so you know my vote for which gauge to use.

Every vehicle is different in terms of what the SG/UG can read, it depends on what protocol the ECM is using. But if it can read trans temp. then you will have a highly accurate reading, as it is coming straight from the vehicle's computer.

I have been using my Scanguage II for a few years now... Since before they were updated to track real-time MPG (crap.).

I really like it. I monitor intake air temp, engine temp, short term fuel trims, and battery voltage (my battery is going bad, so it has interested me).

It has read codes for me, cleared them, helped me trouble shoot, etc. I really like it. I think I already said that.

I haven't actually programmed mine to do trans temps, and i don't think it would anyways since mine is a manual transmission

Mine sits right on top of the steer column, mounted with a piece of velcro. It covers my over drive light, but that's it.

The torque app is pretty cool. I wish they had it for ios.

There are equal apps on ios if you really care to search.

The only disadvantage of the torque and obd ii Bluetooth adapter setup imo is it's not good to leave the adapter in, so I found myself plugging in on each drive or only when needed, otherwise unplugging.

The manufacturer I spoke to says it only draws a tiny bit of battery power when the vehicle is off... but I'm anal and I don't like even a little.

Have had scangauges in my vehicles for over 5 years and really enjoy them. I just purchased this mount that way it's not on the steering column.

It also wouldn't because yours is a '97, even if it was Automatic.

We did a considerable amount of searching around for it. Made one 4 hour drive to check one out. Ended up finding mine an hour and a half away.
