Scangauge trans temp?

Hey Guys, Im looking for clarification before I order a gauge. I searched around and it looks like the 05+ 4runner v6 5 speeds are able to see the trans temp. Will it work for my 04?

Im looking at adding an external cooler here soon so if the scan gauge will work then great, if not then I will add a temp sensor inline of the cooler. Thanks guys

Alright guys, I went ahead and bought the gauge and gave it a try. After some searching around different forums for tundras, tacomas, 4runners, etc. I found that this code for the 03-04 4runner 4.0 with the 4spd DOES IN FACT WORK! From talking with linear logic (Manufacturer of the scan gauge II) they said it should work with anyone running the firmware 4.06 or newer. If you dont have the newer firmware you can send it it and for $25 they will upgrade your unit.

According to them, this works for all Toyota using the CANSF which includes 05+ 4Runner.

I was just going to ask the same thing.

You have to understand, trans temp doesn't show up as a regular gauge, you have to program it in using the X-code feature.

Given that I was able to see trans temps on my 3rd gen (99) 4runner I would find it hard to believe they'd "regress" and make them unavailable for the early 4th gens.

Somewhere on this board you can find the proper X-codes for the trans temp. IIRC you also have to use X-codes to show DTE (Distance to Empty.)

here's the codes i used..they are for 2010+Tacoma/4Runner's supposedly.. the scangauge website says toyota/lexus/scion 2010+


Transmission Temperature 1 (Degrees F) 2010+

NAM: TFT1

Transmission Temperature 2 (Degrees F) 2010+
TXD: 07E02182
RXF: 046105820000
RXD: 3808
MTH: 00090005FFD8
NAM: TFT2

TFT1 is supposedly the trans pan temp and TFT2 is supposedly the trans converter output temp so that will tend to be higher and will vary more often
