Christ, I wasn't expecting this much interest!
So background on these cans - they are MILSPEC and do not meet EPA/CARB regulations. As such, they are not sold to the public. These are the same cans that the U.S. Military uses. 99% of the cans are tan brown, to include the water cans. The way you tell the difference is water cans have one handle at the top, and the fuel cans have three (as you can see in the pic). That way, you can tell the difference at night. The military does not use the blue water cans, but they are typically used by the UN and NGOs.
The Scepter Military Fuel Canister (MFC) was developed by Scepter to meet design and performance requirements set by the U.S. Army and Canadian Forces for leak-proof, rugged, safe, dependable and cost-effective plastic jerry canisters. Designed to and meets Mil-C-53109, which has evolved to CID A-A-59592A. Scepter has produced and delivered over one million MFCs.
Vehicle and other OEM defense contractors can design equipment with carrying fixtures and brackets that are uniformly designed because of the standardized dimensions of the fuel canisters (and the Scepter water canisters).
Notable Features:
"U.S. Government Property" embossed on side of can as per Mil-C-53109.
•Cap straps are colour coded to identify type of fuel
•Accepts pour spouts (see MFC Accessories)
•Fits standard pattern vehicle brackets for liquid storage containers
•Air-vent tube in neck keeps pouring smooth
•Inside threads accept adapters for stoves and heaters
•Air chamber at the top; the container will float

Maybe not, but...............way better quality than any lawn mower can I've ever seen.
The Costco cans for $14 are the heaviest plastic cans I've seen.
Easily as heavy duty as the Rotopax I just bought for $100+ each
Besides that, for $14 each I can buy 4 for the $65 price the OP quoted. For the price of two of the OP's @ $65 each, I can buy 9 of tho Costco specials. I bet 9 of the Costco cans will last me a lot longer than 2 of the OP's cans. Besides that they are the same brand, so how cheap can they be in comparison. Probably not that much different, once you manufacture and sell quality items you aren't going to risk that quality with a cheap version.
I shudder to think how many I could have bought for what I spent on Rotopax in the last group buy. IMHO, Sometimes a better deal is just a better deal.

Well, buy the Costco cans, fill with fuel and put them on your roof. Report back after 6-9 months and let us know how much better they are.

How much "better" or in this case worse, do they need to be for only $14?
Are the other ones 4 times better? I'm saying they are not.....especially since they are the same brand.

Haha, these did not "disappear from the motorpool", but I did a bit of research of found a place to purchase them. First purchase was a test, and now I've made three purchases with them. Having a military ID was a requirement. Ask [MENTION=124732]LawnDart[/MENTION] where he got his cans from!
I'm at Yongsan now actually. I've been working at 8th Army for the past 20 months, and I'm getting out of the Army this July (which is why this will likely be the last order I'll able to place).
For the rest of the people interested in these, I figured I would share the love because:
1. These are tough to find and waaaay overpriced.
2. The NATO cans are shit.
And just to be clear, I am not doing this to make any sort of *substantial* profit. I buy them from the distributor for $48.09 + shipping. So the $10 or so per can that I would make basically makes it worthwhile to for me to spend time to order them, store them, and ship them out to people. Take a look at the price of these on ebay; these are being sold used for $40-90 and new for $110-140, and new ones are pretty damn tough to find.
