scion head unit am radio sound

I hooked up the scion tc 2005 headunit in my 04 4runner I noticed that when I have am radio on, it sounds muffled, like heavy base. I have alpine type s' on all 4 doors. Has anyone noticed poor am sound quality?

I did the same modification, but did not have the same problems you have- did you read the post about drilling the back of the Scion HU so that you can hook up the second antenna??

I have noticed that when i listen to some stuff on the radio the bass is too loud, just switch it from "feel" to "hear" or "neutral." I havent noticed the muffled sound for am. but i rarely listen to the radio, other then Giants games occasionally.

drilling back of scion radio

no I did not drill out the hole that you mentioned. I did read the post about it. Seems easy enough to do, however what will hooking up the 2nd antennae line do for me. Let me know if this is worth the effort.
