Scion Pioneer T1809 in a 3rd Gen Pic Inside

I don't know if anybody has tried before me or not. Today I installed a T1809 in my 1997 4Runner. It does plug and play however it does require some hacking into the bezel. I'd say about 1/4" on each side.

HOLY SMOKES this thing sounds so much better than the Alpine HU that was previously installed.

You can definitely make it look clean it just takes some time and the right tools.

Hey how are you liking your the HU? I'm looking to do this, but I'm not sure about trimming my bezel. Did you have to remove the factory amp?

i suspect that the scion head unit has a built-in amp...

so, yes, you would remove the factory amp if using the factory radio.

you would then simply plug in the connector with the speaker wires into the scion head unit.

you might think of hitting the gray/silver with some black paint.

Thanks. Yeah I want to do this upgrade, but I don't really want to cut up my bezel. Especially since I will probably upgrade to a DVD/GPS system at some point.

you could always but a replacement bezel... unfortunately, 4runners are always being parted out!

On a scale of 1-10, how much of a PITA was trimming the bezel? I've only used my dremel tool three or four times and I'm still a bit clumsy with it.

I found one of these locally and going to attempt installing it this weekend. With some luck it should look as good as yours eplanajr!
