Bought her back in July, $20,575 with 46k (SR5 V6). Wasn't sure how I felt about driving an import, but I needed a new vehicle as my other quit on me and I was moving to MS. Long story short, I found this website, saw I could do some cool sh- stuff to it, and fell in love with her.

Shortly after purchase:

Decided I didn't like how low it sat/all the rake, so I did a little research as to what type of lift to get. I don't do a lot of wheeling, so I wasn't looking for something that was going to break the bank, and I went with the Daystar 2.5/1.5. Put the kit on in about 5 hours, for the most part it was pretty easy, except for dealing with the effects of it being a northern truck. Some of the bolts on the struts were pretty rusty, and I needed to let them soak with deep creep for a few hours before I could get them out. The guys at the auto hobby shop on base were good about giving me a hand, putting the rear spacers on is WAY easier with more than one set of hands. Got the tires put on and an alignment done at a shop in town, got a decent deal on a set of Wrangler A/T 275/70s. I need it more for getting to work/getting around on the gravel roads, so I went with the AT instead of an MT, even though I'd rather have a little more aggressive tire. Maybe someday.

I don't think my photography skills (or my iPhone camera) do it justice, it looks better in person. The crooked parking lot at the UOQ probably has something to do with it as well. I definitely don't have the camera, and especially the skills, that some of you on here have.

Few more pics:

Drives better than before, and I can definitely tell that I'm sitting up higher when I'm driving. I was at a stoplight on the way home from the tire place and I noticed I was taller than the Tahoe next to me, so that was cool. I notice a little acceleration loss, but whatever, I'll take it.

The MAJOR downfall.... Got a little taste, and all I want is a bigger lift now. Oh well, that will have to wait, I've got other mods I want to do first.

Next on the list is to throw some plasti-dip on the wheels. I'm planning to remove the center cap and keep that chrome, as I still want some chrome. I think it will turn out nice that way. Still contemplating if I'm going to take the running boards off yet, I haven't decided if I prefer them on or off. Leaning towards off right now. I'll also be adding a bull bar, not sure what brand/model yet (suggestions?), some lights on said bull bar for getting back into my hunting areas, and a new head unit. Probably going to go with the Pioneer AVH-P4400BH.

I know it's not much compared to some on here, but it's a start. I'm really excited about it, and since I've got a lot of free time waiting for training to start I definitely have time to do it right now. Any comments or suggestions are welcome!!

A few updates...

I bought some Plasti-Dip, and did the wheels. Took me longer than I anticipated, as I had originally planned on going to the Auto Hobby Shop on base, taking it up on the lift, taking all four tires off, dipping the wheels, and getting them back on again. Well, I found out that you aren't allowed to paint/spray on base, so I had to do it in my buddy's driveway who lives off base. Didn't have good tools or jacks, so I had to do it two tires at a time.

Quick rundown, as I know there are threads, YouTube videos, websites, etc about using Plasti-Dip. I bought four cans, only used three. I used notecards and stuck them around the wheel so I wouldn't spray it on the tire, it worked out alright. Had to use a little tape at certain parts to hold the cards on, but for the most part they held themselves up pretty well. Four coats per wheel, and it turned out pretty slick.

I'm going to touch up a few spots on the wheels, but overall I'm really happy with how they turned out.

Bad news: Swapped paint with a lady who doesn't know how to drive on Friday. She blew a red light and turned directly in front of me, I swerved to avoid her as best I could, but it was too close and I clipped her rear quarter panel. I was really mad, as I had just done the wheels the night before and was planning on detailing the whole thing when I got home. I have to get a portion of the bumper repainted as it scraped down to the rubber of the bumper in a few spots. $175, and of course she doesn't have insurance. At least it isn't terrible expensive.

I am ordering a Pioner AVH-P4400BH this afternoon, and will hopefully have it installed later this week. Also looking at ordering a bull bar soon, so hopefully I can find a deal on one.

Nice work, the wheels look good. I'm contemplating the lift as well...the bbq mcdonalds dip on your passengers side makes me hungry....damn lady that hit you!

Haha I didn't even notice that! And I definitely recommend the lift, it adds a TON to the look of the truck, and the Daystar is pretty inexpensive for what it adds to the look. If you don't have rusted bolts, it's pretty easy to install too.

Nice truck! I like the chrome center cap ads a good dimension to it. Keep it up!

Thanks! I really liked how that turned out, as I wasn't sure I was going to like it or not. I decided to keep them off as I could always paint them later, but once I got a tire on I loved the look. I definitely like the contrast it adds.

I started with a spacer lift too.....

Now I'm sporting 35s and looking into SAS. Watch your Wallet!! :bigok:

The AVH came in today, and I was going to wait until tomorrow to install it but I got excited and did it this afternoon/evening.

My parts list:
-Pioneer AVH-P4400BH
-Metra 70-1761 Wiring harness
-Metra 95-8202 Dash Kit
-Metra Axxess ASWC Universal Steering Wheel Interface
-12V Relay

Overall, it went in pretty easy. I've done other HU replacements before, but never a DDIN, so it wasn't anything too surprising. I bypassed the parking brake with a simple relay that I bought for $5 from an electronics store in town. This link describes it pretty well:

The only part that caused me any real trouble was the ASWC. The instructions suck, and after almost two hours of troubleshooting, I figured out what the problem was and got it working. Once I figured out I needed to ground the wire from the OEM harness, it auto-configured easily. If you have any questions about how to wire it, I'd be happy to answer them.

I ran the mic for the phone onto the steering column, and I ran the USB cord into the useless cubby in front of the cup holders. I need to drill a hold for that though, but I think I'm going to order the Pioneer iPhone cable so I can stream the video from my phone, so I'm waiting to do any drilling for that.

Here are some pics of the finished product:

I didn't play around with it too much as I know I'll get sucked into it and spend three hours figuring it out, so I haven't tested it's capabilities much, but I did make a call and stream some music from my phone, and it was pretty awesome. I really like what I see so far, and I'll post some more when I figure some more stuff out about it.

Next up, bull bar!

Love the Plasti-Dip Wheels. I'm thinking of doing the same to my OEM Wheels... Maybe sometime when the wife is on a business trip. :nono:

Thread revival

Been a long time since I've done anything of note with my 4Runner, but today I discovered that my stock shocks/struts are pretty well shot. What does this mean you may ask? It means I'm putting an OME suspension kit in.

I also am moving to NJ at the end of Sept, which means snow. Snow means I need new tires, so I am getting a set of Goodyear Duratrac 275x65R18s.

Then you may ask "But the stock wheel is 17 inches!" Yes, it is. That's why I'm getting a set of 18x9 Ultra Gauntlets to put the new rubber on.

I am excited.

The trucks looks great! Which Wranglers are those? How do you like them?

Edit: Looks like SilentArmors.
