Well I thought it would never happen but after owning it for almost 30 years I sold my restored 68 Firebird. Long story short I put the car in a local car show. I was approached by a gentleman who claimed to have owned the exact same car when he was young. We talked about the car and of course he asked if it was for sale. I declined because I've owned the car for way too longbut he was pretty persistent. He kept asking me to name a price and I finally threw a high number at him. He asked if I'd take a little less in cash. Cash, not bank checks or money from a Nigerian Prince....so I sold it.
I was sorry to see it go after owning it for so many years, but I have to admit that I was also excited about the idea of finding a new ride for my garage. After about a month of searching and looking at all kinds of different cars, I finally found one that really lit my fire.
It's a 72 Camaro Z-2/8. I ran the VIN and decoded the data plate and it is a true Z. However the original motor is long gone and has been replaced by a worked 454. The motor puts out approximately 450 HP. All the power runs through a Tremec 5 speed manual trans back to a 12 bolt posi rear with 3:73 gears.
The car received a TOTAL restoration. It also has power steering, power disc brakes, and a brand new ice cold Vintage A/C system. The entire front and rear suspension has been rebuilt and upgraded. It has tubular upper and lower control arms, heavy duty front and rear sway bars, and heavy duty shocks. It also has a set of 17" Torque Thrust wheels with brand new Nitto tires.
The car is an absolute beast and is a blast to drive. It handles like a slot car and has power out the wazoo. The 5 speed is nice too because I can throw it up into 5th gear and the RPM's drop to a nice level while cruising at 55-60MPH.
I'm loving this car and it has received a ton of attention at shows and cruise nights.
