I bought the beast (94 / 3.0 / Auto / ADD / ABS) last summer. The PO had taken out the D/S CV shaft. I finally got a new pair of CV shafts installed. Apparently they are for non-ABS models. My mechanig added a spacer and now I get this loud scraping whine. It sounds like tires rubbing the fender with a metal resonance. It will start and stop suddenly and then start again. I'm at a loss. It seems to be coming from the transfer case, but I'm not sure.
Faster speed increases volume, but then a slight bump (ie. road centerline reflector) will cause the noise to disappear. Without warning it will start again, and sometimes it lasts 5-10 seconds, sometimes it lasts 5-10 minutes.
I haven't tested in 4wd and I hope to have time to get under her and see if anything is obvious. Any ideas as to what I should look at first will be greatly appreciated.
Looking to do the ADD delete and swap to manual hubs, but I am lost as to what all I need to buy. I am stationed in Germany and have ZERO access to junk yards to pull parts. Everything has to be ordered from the states.
