SCRunner's Build Thread

They look great Rob, i have been toying with the idea of dipping mine also, just not sure how easy they would be to touch up after they get rock rash. I get lots of rock rash !

If you're getting rock rash regularly I wouldn't dip them. It will get peeled off if rubbed against by a rock or something sharp and touch up isn't as easy as spray paint. I will probably redo them in spray paint later for durability as I scrape my rims as well wheeling, but for 2 hours total from start to finish and $15 I decided this route. I just can't stand sanding/prepping rims so I derped.

Since I'm in here I ran into some new problems. I got a CEL and retrieved the codes P0171, P1135, and P0125. Looks like some new O2 sensors are in order. Ugh, this is going push my regear back a bit. Between the axle seals and sensors I'm going to hurting.

If you want to feel better, a read through my build will make you realize how lucky you are to only have O2 sensors and some seals go bad. Hahaha :ybrick:

Haha, I've seen yours and I do feel lucky. This is actually my first problem I've had other than regular maintenance in over 2 years I've owned it. I just can't figure out whether I have Cali emissions or Federal. My hood says Federal, but I see two cats. Although this might stop me from taking my 4runner to my families cabin. No wheeling for me this weekend...

Are you still looking for spacers? I've got the set that I got along with the LC wheels.

Why yes I am. PM incoming.

Since I'm in here, I got the seal and o-ring for the rear axle. I'd like to replace the bearing and such, but just can't swing it now that I need O2 sensors as well. If the seal fails again then I'll take the time to replace bearing and only be out about $20.

I'm also thinking of installing the 4.88 rear diff I'm getting from Ripcord at the time of the rear axle seal repair. I don't have a front 4.88 yet, but I don't have any wheeling trips planned till August anyways. That should give me enough time to get the front replaced. Just need to find the time to get it all done since I'm gone all weekend.

First off the build updates...I got some time and installed my Superflex coils this weekend. I didn't realize how long they were and ran into a little snafu when installing. I had to remove everything and disconnect everything just to get the drivers side in. Spring compressors would have been super helpful, but I did get them in. I also replaced my stock bumpstops for the "junkyard" bumpstops from a 90's Chevy Trailblazer. I didn't cut them down yet as I need to see where they hit, but cutting them is super easy.

My first impressions of the superflex coils is they are a good amount shorter than my Downey coils. About .5" which I wasn't expecting. It's not a bad thing, but I'm at about 23.5" in the back now, where I was at 24" before. I also noticed my ride has softened up some. I never complained about the Downey coils, but the ride is softer/smoother now. I really liked the Downey coils when loaded with weight, but I don't have plans for more rear weight at this time, so the superflex coils will work better.

Horrible pic of the bumpstops and coils, I will get some pics of the final stance when I get home.

I also picked up a pair of spidertrax spacers from Hepar. I've been needing them to clear the UCA at full droop and now I can take my rig wheeling. Thanks again Hepar!

Ok now the big update. For anyone who has been following my thread you'd probably notice I buy a lot of parts and then change my mind and sell them. Some due to money contraints and others due to changing plans on my build. I've sold two tube bumpers, 2 sets of spacers, 2 coilovers, sport hood, numerous tires and wheels and a bunch of little things. Something is wrong with me, but O well I love it. That leads me to my most recent purchase. I just got a 4.88 rear diff from 4-Ripcord with the plans of gaining some power back. I was dead set on doing this and had plans to get my front regeared by August. Well a quick craiglist search and that all changed....I now present my next project...

Picked this beauty up today. It is a 2nd gen Supercharger with 10k on it. I found it on one of my random supercharger search throughout the country. Ended up being in Pennsylvania and VERY reasonably priced. The guy took his truck into the dealership because he was boosting too much. Toyota took the s/c off and put a new one on thinking it was the problem. Ended up being a valve and he was left with a spare s/c. Unfortunately it doesn't have any of the hardware so that is the one downside. I'll have to source the parts, but for the price it was worth it. He will be shipping it tomorrow and I'll hopefully have it by next week.

I will be running it stock with some IK22 plugs for a while. I can't afford any of the additional kits right now and I don't plan on pushing it hard (that much). Eventually I'll go the URD route, but that will have to wait. I know some people frown on that, but it's what my budget will allow right now. I'm hoping to have all the parts by August as there is a TW mod day and Jerry from BAMF can help me install it since he's done his already. I've been reading up on BFAD's post in Rickashay's thread as to what I need. It's going to be a pain, but worth it in the end...

I'm glad that post is helping you out. I still need to copy and paste that into my build thread somewhere for safe keeping. That post took some time to put together.

Well, it looks like you can finally live up to the name and put the SC into SCRunner12! That is, if you actually install it, rather than selling it forward.

You're funny with the parts flipping, man. When Jim told me that he sold you that 3rd, I told him right then and there... "Watch, he's gonna flip it!"

I was going to pick it up and throw it in the '01 so I could see what a re-gear would do for me, and determine whether or not it would be worth the $$$$. You should let me know what your plans are for getting rid of the rear 3rd.

Daaaaaamn nice come up dude !

Thanks man, I can't wait to get it installed.

Hahahahah you got me there. I REALLY was going to keep the diff as I've been hating the power loss after my 33's. the regear was going to cost me about $2-300 total after selling my old diffs so I was pretty adamant about following through with it. But a s/c is so much more fun and why would I want to get back to stock power when I could have s/c power?

Most of my reselling is because my budget is really restricted and I offer resell to afford something I want more. I'll often buy things i feel are a good deal but may not be my ideal item. It's annoying at times and I wish could pay retail price but its not in the budget. Most of the time I resell for the same price or for a profit.

I ended up selling the diff to crazydubman. It's local so no shipping and he really needs it. He has been wanting to regear and is about to pull the trigger so I'm happy I can help him save some cash. His pig needs it after the bead locks. Sorry I would have been more than happy to sell it to you otherwise.

It's all good. I figured it might be a cheap way to satisfy my curiosity, but the early bird gets the worm, right?

One of these days I'll just take the plunge, or I'll find someone who's re-geared and just hop in for a test ride.

Sorry BFAD. I have been talking with Robert about regearing for a long while. I am actually working on a deal for the front now too. Don't want to count my chickens too early though. It will be good to see how the 4.88's help out my pig. Looking forward to feeling the difference between our runners when you finally get the S/C dialed in.

HA! I TOLD YOU! You have some strange gift of finding anything and everything on craigslist, classifieds, and forums :pound: :bigok:

I'm still laughing at BFAD's post "You know he's gonna flip it!" LOL

Great find on the SC dude! ... just don't sell it! :D

I hate beating people to the punch only to sell it, but a s/c was the only thing stopping me from doing the gears. I think I'm going to try and drive crazydubman's rig (if he lets me) after he regears compared to mine just to see the difference. He has a ton more weight, but it would still be good to see how they handle.

Yeah that s/c came at perfect timing for the both of us. I'll race you when I get it installed haha j/k

I know, I know. A boring desk job and some free time produces lots of craigslist finds. I never expect to find deals on superchargers, but I was able to talk the guy down to about half his asking price shipped.

I do NOT plan on selling this one. There is nothing I want more that I would sell it for. The only way it is going bye bye is if I run into some dire financial situation and need money quick. I'm hoping that doesn't happen for my families sake. I'm hoping to have it on around August and then it's not coming off until it needs a rebuild.

Good thing you didn't mention it before. Otherwise I would have charged you triple for the spacers.

Haha, I pretty much made the deal all of yesterday. It was a quick transaction since it was a good deal and I didn't want it to get snatched up.

Damn, lots of exciting parts flip flop going on over here in this thread! lol

I'm pretty sure that despite your best efforts, you have ended up in a wicked position! haha An S/C is going to bump this truck up to the next level, and I'm stoked to see it.

And yes.... BigFishAllDay 's S/C post in my thread was epic. Maybe I should go and quote it with a bunch of stars and raindbows and stuff so people realize it's infinite significance. Yup, I'm going to.

Yes I've gone through quite a few parts recently, but I've found the one that I've wanted since I first bought my 4runner. This one is staying! I'm definitely happy with my position now, but here comes the fun part of sourcing the install parts. I'm really hoping to have them all by the beginning of August because there is TW mod day that I could get this installed at.

I think I'm going to make a thread dedicated to that post since it's SO valuable. It will get lost in our build threads and I can add my experience with sourcing the parts as well. I will add some stars and rainbows for you as well haha.

The s/c has officially shipped. Still waiting on UPS to update their system, but it should be here next week. I also should be receiving my rear axle seal and fuel filter today. Those will probably go on this weekend or possibly after I get back from a wedding in Seattle in two weeks.

In other non build news I have a new addition to the family. We ended up getting a 2 month old Terrier mix puppy. We aren't sure what the dad is, but he is pretty cute. Ended up naming him Tony. My daughter (2.5) and Fiance are ecstatic and I will have a wheeling buddy. Wasn't really planning on a dog quite yet, but I'm very excited to have him in the family.

My daughter and Tony.
