SCRunner's Build Thread

Nice setup on those SAWs! Can't wait to see what you have to say about them.

Same with the supercharger, do you have any other plans with a supercharger? Or just to find one and put it in.

Yeah, they were only $50 more than what I plan to sell my Tundra/5100 setup for, so it was kind of a no brainer. I still have free alignments for a little bit, so the $50 should be the final price for them. I'm excited to see the difference in ride with them as well. Like I said the Tundra lift is great, but a pain to adjust and I'd have to invest in a spacer to even the front sides out.

Right now the plan is just to get the s/c. I know people frown upon just running the s/c, but honestly I think it will be fine. I'll get the IK22 plugs and possibly a larger fuel pump, but I'm not looking for a race car. I just want the extra power for heading to my cabin and to deal with hills. I had a 99 Tacoma with a s/c and no fuel mods years ago. It worked perfectly and had the extra power I was looking for. I told myself I would either regear or get a s/c before getting 33's because I knew I would be annoyed without one of them. The s/c sounds like more fun to me. Eventually after tires I will look into some fuel management and smaller pulley's.

Also because I know people will ask, I will be selling my Tundra/5100 set up. I want to get the SAW's in first and make sure they are running right before sending my Tundra's away. After I feel the SAW's are good to go I will post them up.

Hey man I remember you from Jasons meet at his house when you first put the lift on, and I know some of those pictures hah (I'm the one hosting the D&B meet on TW btw) not sure if you have your SAW's in yet but I can attest to how well they are. I have had them on my 4th gen for over a year and had a Demello bumper with them and they are awesome. The only thing I would say is if you plan on putting a bumper and/or winch change out the coils to a heavier set now to save yourself a headache in the future. Either way truck looks great and hope you make the meet so I can see your rig!

Hey Jacob, yeah I remember you. How could I forget you with all the stories of your tire flying off. Haha, I already put the SAW's on, but stuck with the 600lbs because I don't have plans for a bumper for a while and I plan on going tube. Once I get a winch and skids though I'll probably switch to 650lb. I should be at the meet, just have to clear it with the fiance. Thanks for the comments.

Well it's been quite a while since my last update. I've done a few things to my 4runner, but mostly just been enjoying then end of summer. I got my SAW 2.0's in and checked them out. They were clean and in good shape, which I was happy about. I ended up putting them in one night after putting my daughter down. It took me 1.5 hours from the moment I stepped outside to the last tool being put away, finishing at 12:30 am. My dad randomly saw me working on it as he was headed home and stopped to help/talk. He mostly helped by slightly adjusting the lower shock mount to align with the LCA.

Somehow the pics of them off the truck never transferred over to my photobucket account, but pics on the 4runner are better anyways.

The ride compared to the Tundra/5100 is definitely different. It is softer and flexes more. Overall a good upgrade although I need to figure out a way to lift the front a bit more with the coilovers still on the 4runner. I half-a$$ed tried this last weekend with no luck.

Shortly after getting the SAW's on I took a trip with my Fiance, daughter, mom and step-dad up to our family cabin. We had an amazing time paddle boarding, paddle boating and just enjoying our last summer weekend up there. One of the days I met up with Stockwell45 (Matt) for some wheeling. We took a different trail from last time and ended up on a ridge overlooking the lake. It was pretty tame, but a lot of washboard type roads. I had noticed on the way up a slight clanking from the front passenger side. Turns out the top bushing between the top plate and they top nut had managed to go over the washer and was sitting on the top of the shaft. So the clanking was my shock shaft slamming the washer against the top plate.

Here is my very crude explanation of what happened.

I was able to put the bushing back, but it happened again on the passenger side and on the drivers side. I was a little annoyed. Upon inspection I noticed the washer has a significantly smaller diameter than the bushing. This explains the issue I had and after researching it a bit more other have had the same issue. I replaced the bushings, but need to find a suitable replacement washer.

Here are some pics of the view from the top.

9/25/2012 Cont.

Other than that not much has gone on with the 4runner. I picked up some clear corners off redrunner02. I definitely like the look a lot better than the stock ambers, it looks much cleaner IMO. I also picked up some BORA 1" wheel adapters. They haven't come in yet, but should be here this weekend or early next week. These will help push my tires a bit closer to the edge of the flares and give me the clearance for 231mm's.

I've been thinking a lot about what I want to do with my 4runner. Obviously I'd love to mod the hell out of it and wheel it all the time, but that's not going to happen. I've got my 9to5, a wedding next summer, a Fiance back in school and an almost 2 year old running around the house causing terror. I just don't have the time and money to devote to my 4runner and everything else that I need/want to do. My 4runner is my DD as well and needs to be ready every Monday for work or any trip we have planned. It can't be down because of repairs suffered when wheeling and I don't have the money to pay for the repairs. So I've decided to keep my 4runner somewhat stock for the time being and devote my mods to non-wheeling mods. It makes the most sense, especially for the amount of times I'm able to wheel in a year. I'll probably eventually get a tube front bumper down the line, but I have other mods in mind.

So what are these other mods???

My Next Mods (In somewhat order)
Projector Retrofit (November maybe)
Supercharger (January I think)
Double Din Radio w/ headrest TV's (December maybe)
285/75/16's and new wheels (July '13 hopefully)
TBU 231's (Whenever my brakes wear out)
URD 7th injector (when I can afford it)

This is the big item list. I will definitely do some small mods along the way, but for the most part I'm hoping to follow that list.

I will still wheel my 4runner whenever I can, but the more intense wheeling will have to wait till I get a 1st gen. I've been wanting one since the day my 87 was taken from me in a tragic accident. I've thought of skipping the s/c and spending a grand or so on a TLC 1st gen, but I'm not sure yet. It all depends on how my raise and bonus turns out this winter.

I have started a welding class though, so if I get good enough I may just make my own bumpers to keep the costs down. We'll see in December if a welder is in my future.

Hey man.. I've successfully cranked my CO's up a couple weeks ago while they were on the truck. Don't forget you have the little allen screw in there to lock it down. Mine does anyways. Yours might be a little different all together though since you crank from the buttom while mine are the other way. You're definitely going to have to let the suspension hang. Take the tire off and do it that way. This alleviates the compression on the springs. Blast it with pb too and then clean it up when your done. I've got mine REALLY close to where I want them. They're giving me pretty close to 3" of lift and helping clear the 35's nicely.

Sweet setup man! Nice to see an update from you!

Thanks! I've been meaning to update this, but I have maybe 15 mins at night to be on the computer. I decided to be lazy at work to finally get it all done.

Yeah I loosened that allen screw and sprayed WB-40, but I don't have a spanner wrench. I tried a couple of time and said screw it, but I think this weekend I'm going to soak the threads with PB and use the upside down bottle jack to relieve some more pressure. I just want .3-.5 inches more at the most and to level the drivers side a bit more. Your set up looks really good btw.

lol, you don't have a spanner wrench? THERE'S your problem :D

How are you turning them then? It will probably take you 2 turns if not more to get 1/2. I had mine set at 2" thread shown and cranked on them bout 4 turns. It got me around 1/2 more. Just gonna have to play with it a little bit. As PITA as it is, probably will take you a few times to tune them the way you want. They look good though. Great looking list of mods to come. I wish a supercharger was in my plans but it's unrealistic for me (unless I got it for a couple hundred lol). Anyways, good luck with everything. I'm always following your thread.

Haha, yeah I knew that was my first problem. I was using an allen wrench, but it wasn't working too well. I've heard of people using tap dies (I think). Hopefully I can get it to work or I'll be placing an order for a spanner wrench. Thanks for the advice!

Well it was a S/C or a slew of smaller mods. With the money for a S/C I could get front and rear bumpers and probably a front skid or tires and a bumper. I've thought about that, but I'm already annoyed at the lack of power on hills and driving to my cabin that I won't get 33's without gears or a S/C. It will just make my daily drive that much more enjoyable rather than the 5-6 times a year I'd actually utilize the bumpers. Hopefully I can stay on track with those time frames.

Damn straight! I've just been lazy ordering one, I might this week though. Just didn't want to spend $30 for a one or two time use.

lol you'll use it more than that..

Only reason I'm singling out a SC is cus I really don't care to put all that stress on a motor with high mileage and it's not getting any lower. Not to say it's BAD for it, just not something I'm willing to do. With the right time and money, a nicely rebuilt motor with the right parts along with a SC and all the other doo-dads yea I'd be down. But I'm lacking the time and money part lol. You're screen name is SCRunner and most people don't think geographically when they see it. So I guess you gotta live up to it the right way :D

Good to see an update on the 4Runner, SCR12, and glad to hear you like the new coilovers. It's good to see that you've put some thought into your mod list and how it will fit into your general plan for the future... that helps alot with making the right choices the first time. You'll really enjoy having a S/C'd 4Runner, trust me. It's night and day once you start running bigger heavier tires, bumpers, etc.

Congrats on the welding class too, I'm sure you'll be turning out some sweet projects with the new knowledge/skills.

Lookin good!!

FYI>> You don't need spacers to clear the 231s on the LX or LC 80 series wheels. :jump:

Also, I have a spanner you could use to set those coilovers.
I assume you don't come over the hill too often?
I'm in SC from time to time though.

I'm curious to see how much lift you have compared to the rear w/ your 3" Downey coils.
