SE brake upgrade, other ques...

Hi all,
My wife and I are looking at 4R's now for a purchase pretty soon, I had a couple of ques. for ya:

The current finance and rebate deals end in March, will these be extended or improved on?

Also, we will likely get an SR5 V6. I like the sport, but I cannot find a V6 one with side airbags right now, and they don't have light blue in the sport. I could also live without the non func. hood scoop.

I would like to know if you can add the sport brakes to the standard 4R, is the caliper the same up front? Seems like if it is, then all you would need is the bigger disc and a spacer, right? Anyone done this?

Also, would the XREAS really be worth waiting for? I am a sports car guy, but this would be her primary car. I hope to drive them back-to-back soon.

Does anyone have any hard comparison numbers on accel and brake performance in these trucks?

The brakes are no big deal, but the sport has a much nicer interior and wheels. The hood scoop is what makes the sport the sport; regardless of weather it's functional. Don't settle for anything other then what you want. All the 4Runner are GREAT vehicle!

You MUST have 17 inch wheels to upgrade to the Sport brakes. The SR5 comes standard with 16 inch wheels, but have the 17 inch Limited wheels as an option.

My only advice on the XREAS-- don't buy anything until you drive an SR5 and a Sport back-to-back.

I'm also a sports car guy, so I can appreciate a vehicle that handles well. The 4Runner is no corner-carver, but the difference with the XREAS system is night and day, in my opinion.

Without the XREAS, the 4Runner really seems to lean around bends/turns, but it does have a plush ride.

With the XREAS, the 4Runner handles more like an average sedan (not like a sports car!) and the ride is a bit firmer, but not too firm at all.

Do yourself a favor and drive both suspensions.
 
Hitman is right about the XREAS (night and day), it is probably the biggest difference between the SR5 and Sport.

Sure, I don't see why it wouldn't be.....

Did you check out the prices though? It probably won't be too cheap. BTW, I'm pretty sure that the calipers ARE different. From what I remember, the part numbers are different for replacement pads on the Sport.
 
With the sport you get that ridiculous hood scoop. think about getting the sport, but getting a regular hood.
 
True, but I bet a hood isn't cheap either, unless we could organize a T4R board official hood swap site. that would be cool.
 
Buy the Sport and just trade the hood with someone on this board. You can probably make some cash off it to somewhat offset the costs of getting the slightly more expensive Sport. Then you'll have everything you wanted and not more than you needed....

I drove an SR5 and a SE and could tell a difference. I already had my mind set on getting the SE, but just wanted to make the final decision.
 
I got the SR5 and upgraded to the 17" rims. I can add larger better aftermarket ventilated brake discs later (20k miles or so). One of the main reasons that I DID NOT get the Sport Edition with X-RAGS is because I plan to lift my truck. If you are going to lift your SUV in the future, I'd go with a stripped version of the limited edition or an upgraded SR5. That XRAG system is quite expensive to replace/repair and does NOT work with 3" or more lifts.
Do a search on here to view some who have run into problems lifting thier Sport Ed 4Runners with the XRAG system. If you have no future plans of lifting your truck; then I'd buy the Sport Edition.

Sounds like a good deal, you must live where you don't need AWD?

it is in the wilmington, nc area

No, we don't really need 4wd. The locking diff is good enough. plus, full-time awd kinda kills the weight and mileage.

Locking differential? That's only on the 4wd vehicles, correct?

Jason the 2 wheel drive doesn't have a locking differential. I don't even thing they have a posi-traction rearend I think it is open. Don't you get snow in NC? I would get the AWD it doesn't cost you more then 1 mpg and it will add resale value to your ride. If money is a concern I would reather have the V6 with 4 wheel drive then a 2wd V8 and the V6 with 4wheel drive will cost less. JMHO

Hmm, I remember something on the sticker of the one we drove about an anti-slip diff, but maybe I am mistaken, will have to check into it.
