Seafoam?

I haven't, but I did have the dealership do their injector/intake cleaning thing about 12k miles ago. I noticed a difference. I did do the seafoam trick through the brake booster line on my old LS400, and smoked out the neighborhood so bad, someone called the fire department as they thought my garage was on fire! It made a huge difference to the LS. But, honestly though, you're not getting all the benefit of the seafoaming if you don't also clean out the intake and specifically the butterfly opening in the throttle body. That, will produce some great results! Plus, a new set of plugs after the seafoam....and you're glass smooth and got all your power back! After I did all of that to the LS, I could honestly, barely keep it under the speed limit on the highway. I barely had to touch the gas peddle to maintain 80mph. And on those cool, damp mornings back in NC, that baby would freakin' fly off the onramp into traffic!

If you run a good quality fuel treatment periodically you should never need to do anything like Seafoam;it's more for an engine that has had questionable maintenance history or is a bit older or both.
I run a can of BG's 44k once a year and mine runs great at 150k miles.

If anybody is wondering what seafoam is, its a wonderful elixir you feed through your brake booster line which will clear up carbon builder. It works great.

I'll have to try that. I had a transmission flush with BG synthetic fluid and the stuff is still bright red 65k miles later
Seafoamed my 2001 with 140,xxx last week. Used about 1/2 can through the PCV hose, 1/4 in the crankcase and 1/4 in the tank.
Idle and startup immediatley improved. Drove for about 250 miles then had my oil changed. Was due for an oil change but the seafoam changed a relatively clear oil to a dark brown. Checked my dipstick a few times since the oil change and the new oil is completeley clear, looks appetizing almost.
Overall very happy, going to do this twice a year or so. Everything is much smoother and I have definatley regained some MPG's.

If your 4Runner is noticeably running better than it was in bad shape to begin with and needed a Seafoam treatment but after you've done it once you should just add a good fuel additive once or twice a year and never have to do it again since it's overkill as a regular maintenance routine not to mention a pain in the butt to do.

I usually run techron or redline SI1 in all my vehicles every 20,000 miles. The redline seems to work the best and it contains no solvents. It is simply 100% detergent.

I have not used seafoam in my 4runner, but I used seafoam with every oil change in my 1999 Isuzu Rodeo and it helped tremendously. The Rodeo had a design flaw with the piston rings - the holes weren't sized properly and oil would get clogged and burn on top of the piston rings. The seafoam would clean up all of the mess and I noticed an improvement immediately after an oil change. Usually what I would do is pour a half bottle in the crank case and let the engine idle for 5-10 minutes before draining the oil.
Maybe this is something that needs to be done with higher mileage vehicles, I am not sure. If you do use it, just be prepared for a mess! The seafoam dilutes the oil so when you remove the drain plug, it will splatter all over the place.

hey guys i was reading all up on this seafoam thing, i've never done it on my t4r b4 and its at 260k miles right now, its a 1999 sr5. HOWEVER do you guys think i should do it now? or wait a bit? WHY? b/c i just changed my spark plugs and had an oil change about a month ago. so do you think i should wait until my next oil change and do it b4 the oil change or after the new oil change? also with the spark plugs, i know i dont want to replace new spark plugs after a month just b/c i did seafoam. but if i have to i dont mind spending the extra 20 bucks and labor to replace the plugs. but is it nessary? i want to get the best mileage as possible.

i would like to do this on my 2003 v8 4runner. where to add seafoam? how do i get to the pcv valve/brake booster? the diagram is confusing a little...

Where exactly is the PVC hose and the crankcase?
How soon after seafoaming the truck do you have to get an oil change? Is it immediately after or can it be the next day? When seafoaming how many miles do you have to drive for?

I Seafoamed tonight using the spray can product. It was very easy to do, just spray in the throttle body with the hose they give you. My son kept the engine at 1500 for me.
Smoked like crazy while doing it, and smoked even more after the restart. Took it on the highway to give 'er, and now it runs smoother and quieter. The idle dropped from 750 to 700. I guess that's good if it's because things are cleaner.
