Seafoaming Process???

I have a '90 3.0 auto, and it's sputtering. I would like to know how to do this seafoaming process? Can anyone help!? Appreciate it!

On yotatech.com you'll find more posts on seafoam than you'll care to read. Basically you feed about 6 oz into a vacuum line, turn 'er off, wait a while, then restart. Expect a bit of smoke.

:lol: Expect a LOT of smoke....I have used the Seafoam product on my S2000 and my wife's 90 Miata. The stuff works well to clean things up in the intake system.
You use a vacuum line as close to the TB as you can this way you clean the full intake out. You can use Seafoam spray to clean the TB as well.

Pinch the vacuum line you use in the can of Seafoam so it draws the stuff slow if it draws to fast you can choke the engine and it will stall. As you draw the cleaner rev the engine a little to keep it from stalling, use about a half can. Put the other half in the fuel tank then, drive the truck until the smoke clears.

Haha.....I did this on my Jeep....there was more than just a bit of smoke. One of my neighbors was driving by and stopped because she thought my house was on fire....:bravo:

The instructions say one pint treats 8 to 25 gallons of fuel. When I use it I add a pint to 1/4 tank then take a short drive to the gas station and fill up. Don't add any more gas again until you're down pretty low.

Yes, I was being a little sarcastic when I said 'a bit of smoke.' When I did this to my 4Runner a few months ago in my back yard, my neighbor called up thinking there was a fire. If my wife hadn't been there to answer the phone I'm sure she would have called the fire dept.

catalytic converter cause sputtering?

Hey guys I just cleaned my '90 with the sea foam process, and I noticed a leak and a tiny bit of smoke coming from where the catalytic converter connects. I tried the sea foam to see if it would get rid of my sputtering problem I'm currently having. It didn't fix the problem, but I did notice how the idol got smoother and quieter. Also when I rev it up you can feel and hear the difference. It will not rev over 1800-2000 rpm with out dying down. Could this have something to with the catalytic converter?

There was a slow drip of a black substance coming from it. Maybe a possible sign of that breaking down? Apprecitate the help.

i dont think a clogged cat would cause an engine to cut out 2000rpm. if the exhaust is leaking from before you o2 sensor that could cause problems.

Would a bad o2 sensor show the check engine light? Mine is not currently on, but before this problem got worse it did come on and went away after a couple days. Not sure why.

a bad o2 sensor would cause the check engine light to come on, or 'throwing a code', and just because the light is not on doesnt mean there aren't any codes stored. here is a website that explains how to check the trouble codes stored on the ECU.

I appreciate all the help.. Now can I take out the o2 sensor to test to see if this sputtering will go away. Will that harm anything?

Where do I put the Seafoam

Ive read and searched and searched and read some more but still cannot find where this damn vacuum intake line thingy is where Im supposed to pour the seafoam in my 3vze engine.
Can someone please show me which hose I am looking for in the image below?

I thought I read somewhere that that doesnt hit all the cylinders......or was that just for the 3.4 v6?

Do you have a state emissions inspection?

If not, take out the cat (4 bolts...sometimes easier to tighten the bolts to snap them off if severely rusted than trying to remove them) remove the cat and see if you can see light shining through it. If you can't, take a section of pipe the same diameter as the inside of your cat pipe and drive it through the middle of the cat. This will totally eliminate the function of the cat (probably clogged up anyways), free up the exhaust flow and still give you a legal appearance if someone were to take a look under your truck. Works like a charm but you may fail an emissions check. Think of it like clearing a clogged drain...same concept.
