Search for a T4R 2002 3.4L Engine

Hello,

My T4R 2002 engine needs to be replaced. The connecting rod came through the cilinder block (only 90K). I'm looking for a used engine which can fit my T4R 2WD AUTO. When I'm searching on the internet I find a 5VZFE engine; does a 4x4, RWD, FLR(?) fits in my T4R?

And does anybody knows were I can buy a good used engine?

I purchased a used & complete 69k mile 3.4 out of a totaled 2003 tacoma prerunner, which is 2wd, for my 2004 tacoma 4x4 and everything was the same. It bolted right in. When i was doing my research i learned that the 4runner 3.4 is compatible with the tacoma. I purchased it from a Arizona salvage yard that had it listed on ebay for $1200 + $200 for shipping. I found some used engines local but they were all around 160k to 180k miles for the same amount of money. I requested the donor's vin # to verify last recorded mileage thru carfax. It took me about 8 months to find a low mileage 3.4L.

For all intents, a 3.4 is a 3.4. You can swap parts from your to another 3.4 that aren't the same.

External dimensions on all of them are the same. It doesn't matter if it's from a 4x4, 4x2, Tacoma, 4Runner, etc.

My '00 4Runner has an engine from an '02 Tacoma in it that had 60k on the odometer. I had to swap parts of the intake from mine onto the donor as it had a manual trans. Also had to remove the pilot bushing out of the back of the crankshaft.

Hi bud, try and get a jdm engine if you have no luck finding a vehicle with a useable 3.4...I agree as most would with comments above, it is not year specific.

If you need one and want to ship one from canada. There is a clean one available where I am. Might be a good last resort, I decided to just rebuild mine for the fun of it,,,not a mark on it,,sexy,

Jdm engines are a pain in the ass. If you go that route and aren't doing work yourself expect about 500 or more in shop labor for switching parts
