How does it work? Because it doesn't seem to do much more than just pull threads with words in them, most not even related.

i.e. "RCI Transfercase Skidplate" is the search parameter and I am getting threads about leaking transfercase actuators that have no mention of skid plates or RCI.

We keep telling forum members to use the search function, but its borderline useless and doesn't respond well to most search engine tricks.

I agree completely. Every time I do a search I get 495 results, most of which at the top don't even apply to what I'm searching on. I usually have to go down half a page or more to get to any that apply. And the threads that are the longest are always at the top (the 'what did you do with your 4runner today' thread).

OK, if you do the advanced search and search on 'Titles Only' that seems to help.

The vB search function IS borderline useless. It's terrible.

If you want to search T4R.org for a specific term, use a regular search engine. Plug "site:www.toyota-4runner.org" into your search string on duckduckgo or bing or google or whatever, and it'll search just this site. Or whatever other board you want to search, just substitute the URL. It works much better.
