Seat interchange questions (airbag tag's different, from 07 to 07)

I have done some reading an seemingly found the only possible hickup left now. Simply put;

My 07' SR5 had cloth, manual track's, tag's say "SRS side airbag" on seat.


Donor seat's were from an 07' SR5, manual track, leather, tag just says "side airbag".

Now, I understand side curtain airbag's were optional in 07' an standard in 08'.

What is the difference in these seat's?
Can anyone explain in plain English what happens if I disconnected the SRS yellow 2-wire connector an the new seat doesn't have it?
Does this just disable the SEAT airbag's or would this shut down the entire airbag system?

These tan leather seat's are in such excellent condition, finally got a set an they were listed as airbag models. I can return them but I would absolutely HATE to turn them back in over this. I have dug around an it just became jumbled, does "side airbag" only on the seat tag mean it doesn't have a bag in the seat? If not, where the hell is the connection for it.

Per your last thread, I still think you have OEM seats with an aftermarket leather kit. The aftermarket leather was probably put in before original owner took possession or shortly after. The aftermarket leather maker probably has different airbag tags. I feel like you’re more likely to get leather that’s airbag compliant than not in and aftermarket kit regardless of whether the seat has airbags or not. I would say you scored huge if you grabbed seats with airbags from another pre 2008 SR5, as I feel like that would be pretty rare for an SR5.

The big thing is safety, if your new seats have the yellow plug, and you connect them with no airbag light, you’re all set. If you have seat airbags currently, and your new ones don’t, or you don’t plug them in, you will get the airbag light.

The good news is, if worst case scenario your new seats don’t have airbags, it’s relatively easy to tear down the seat with a screwdriver, tin snips, and some 40lb zip ties to remove your current seat’s airbag and transfer them over.

I know it's confusing to follow.
The donor vehicle vin was supplied as an 07' SR5 with factory POWER cloth.

So aftermarket kit, dealer installed, whatever, these are not the original seat's for that vehicle as they have manual tracks. The tags on the side for airbag's are original style tag's, I have found the same tag on many OEM pictures across Google.

My 07' cloth HAVE the yellow connector/SRS system, these new seat's, 06-07 model as the wiring connectors are perfect, do NOT have the yellow plug.

Even if I swap cover's, the SRS style are different for airbag deployment I believe, so I don't think either way these work to just swap cover's. What I am willing to accept, is either STRICTLY my SRS system is down, or it's all down.

I mean, I would take on the project of swapping cover's POSSIBLY, but I want some hard fact's on the difference between "Side airbag" and "SRS side airbag" seat models. It appears, the tag, "side airbag" does NOT even have an airbag in the seat? I'm just trying to sort out what the hell I could even do here.

Thank you for the assistance, I'm not saying you're wrong, but there is nothing about these seat's that has any remote resemblance to aftermarket, down to tag's an hooks used on both sets of factory seats.

Dude. I don’t think you’re tracking what I’m saying. Post a pic of your seats here, that might help. There’s no secret code to the seat tag. Go to the classified, there’s a guy there selling a red katzkin kit. If you zoom in on his pics the seats say ‘side airbags’. It’s just whatever the manufacturer of the leather seat kit had. I had a leather seat.commkit and theirs says srs airbag. Your seat either has a yellow connector or it doesn’t.

The tag is a warning that the seat has airbags. That’s what it’s meant to be. If you have curtain airbags, you have a warning on your pillars. And why there’s ‘srs airbag’ on your dash for your passenger, and on your steering wheel airbag cover.

Whatever seats you have, I’m betting that they’re aftermarket leather upholstery. And the person who installed them, got airbag compliant leather. If you post a pic of the back of your seat that will help.

Edit - SRS stands for supplemental restraint system. It’s your airbag system. There’s not your ‘airbags system’ and an additional ‘srs airbag system’. It’s the same.

Yes. I’m not sure if there’s actually a difference or not, but I’ve read that seat upholstery is stiched differently for airbag seats so the airbag punches through correctly. Presumably, if it can’t break the seam where it’s supposed to, it runs the risk of injuring the occupant.

But simply put, you should have no issue transferring the leather to your original seats. Or vice versa, transferring your airbag to the new seat. Although you may have to transfer the back cushion or seat frame as well.

I am going to pay to have cover's swapped. I'm a very DIY kinda person, but with these I don't want to risk it. Shop said $200 for both seat's, remove both cloth an associated leather cover's, an re-install each onto the other's frame. For that kind of money, I'm happy to let someone else deal with it.

200 is a no brained for both seats. It’s very easy, but long and tedious. Do yourself a favor and tell the shop to reuse the best seat cushion, which will probably be the leather one, since it’s more protective. And lastly, if they’re not heated, that would be the time to at least add the heat elements. Good luck.

I got $100 back for the seat's being advertised incorrectly.
I am paying $160 tomorrow for the covers to be swapped once the dude learned I will be driving the vehicle seat's come from, he invited me to hang out an he would do it that afternoon.

So, I'll end up with $610 into these for front an rear seat's. I'll update if anything doesn't work out, otherwise, I think my perseverance for seat's in an 11 year old truck will pay off.

It's done. Paid $168 today to have all the cover's swapped. They took all 4 seat's apart an transferred seat covers an foam accordingly. Put the same foam back with the leather cover's as they were nearly perfect. They finished up all 4 seat's so they are both good usable set's still.

He also said the leather appeared to be factory in his opinion for whatever that's worth. Put them in the truck an all airbag light's are gone, system is back to fully functional.

Seat's are soft an comfortable. Really happy with the ordeal now that it's all done. If anyone find's this in the future, maybe this will help you out.
