Seat problem

We took a little trip last weekend, about 200 miles each way, and I finally found something about the 5g that bothers me - somebody changed the shape of my favorite seats!

One of the things I've always loved about my Toyotas is the shape of the seats. They've always felt like they were made just for me. No more. After about 50 - 100 miles I found myself squirming trying to get comfortable. Even with the 8 way adjustability of the Limited seats, I still couldn't quite get comfortable. As close as I can figure, the seat bottom bolsters are a little too stiff or a bit too close together. It seems that after a while the outside bottoms of my thighs start to burn from being squeezed inward so now I'm trying to figure out how to alter the seats.

Anybody else having the same problem? Any ideas re: what to do about it?

I can't speak for an actual 5Th Gen mod because i don't have one yet. But, I had the same experience when I moved from a 3rd Gen limited seat to a 4th Gen SR5. Really annoying because - like you - i thought the 3rd Gen seats were pretty much perfect.

Any rate, the adition of some padded seat covers (I got Wet Okoles, but there are a variety of padded variants out there I'm sure) made a big difference to my comfort level. Shame to cover up the leather, but if you are uncomfortable it might be the way forward.

I had a similar problem (too firm in a small area) with the seats in my 2001 Odyssey. I ended up peeling the upholstery back, cutting a grid in the foam to create one inch squares and then removing alternate squares in the problem area. It actually worked out pretty well to reduce the firmness in the troublesome areas without distorting the look of the upholstery. I'm thinking that may be the route I go to address this problem, even if I have to get a shop to peel the seats for me.

What is your build, if you don't mind? I'm 5'8", 148lbs, large thighs (cyclist and soccer player). My GTI seats are very well bolstered at the thighs and sides and I really like it.

6'1", 200lbs, fairly skinny thighs.

I really like bolstered seats, but these seem to encroach a little too much so that they are somewhat under the mid-point of the thigh instead of next to it. Like I said, I didn't notice any of this until well into an extended drive.
