Security

My friends Taco got broken into last weekend right on his driveway in the middle of the day and it got me thinking about additional security. They stole his stereo, Garmin nav unit and Ipod. I was searching for some additional protection and ran into this

Has anyone run into something like this for a double din unit. I've email the supplier and he didn't have one and didn't know if someone else makes it to cover the larger units.

I guess you would have to start by thinking like a thief...or a kid.
Figuring that they are already looking at your stuff in the first place, if your hiding something then it might make someone curious enough to find out more. If it is stolen from your driveway then chances are the thief is someone you know or at least 2 degrees of Kevin Bacon.

I don't see a real value to that stuff.
Don't bump close to home or where you park.

in all honesty that piece on ebay is a POS and worthless. It will stick out just like you have a radio, so it isn't going to really conceal it. Put it this way, if a theif wants it, he'll get it regardless of what you have. Many of these guys can be in and out of a car in 30 seconds. My suggestion is to tint your windows. Tint keeps the glass from shattering so they can't just bust the window and get in. Then put you a nice alarm system that can't easily be bypassed. Also, when you have your radio installed, do it ISO if possible. If you cage mount a radio you are just asking for a thief to take it. Cage mounted radios can be pulled in 10 seconds. Just my 2 cents....

i had someone jack my 2 12" subs and 975W amp...the amp was drilled into the seat...and the whole box was taken with the subs...the amazing thing is that they did it through the back seat...didnt break the back window...they lifted it over the seat...if they want it...they will get it...luckily they didnt grab my 400 CD case sittin on the back seat...my ipod...or head unit...i agree...dont bump it where u live/work...or when u go out at night to clubs/bars...now...i have a viper alarm...and hasps bolting the box down...nobody brings bolt cutters to jack a stereo...and even if they bust the window...it'll take them too long to get the box out before the alarm is heard...also...build/buy something to cover the cargo area...and tintn the windows...thats my next move...

Thanks for the replies but the reason I'm searching for a piece that will cover the double din unit is not just for a cover by itself. In the past I had a cover like this for a single din unit and I cut the face plate off of my stock radio dremelled as smooth and thin as possible then glued it onto the face plate. This made it very convincing that it was a stock unit especially from outside. I tried to do this with just the stock Toyota unit but it would be much easier with a smooth base like a cover that can easily be attached. So the question once again by any chance has anyone found one of these for a double din unit or will I have to make it myself?

By the way my friend had a viper pager alarm and they were gone so fast that it just made him aware of the theft a little earlier.
