That is an awesome idea! Hope it hits the streets sooner rather than later.
Besides them generally being slow as a turtle to get anywhere, the main reason I hate being behind trucks is because I can't see/anticipate what's going on ahead. Wonder if the picture will be sharp enough to read road signs?

Apparently it's being "beta'ed" in Argentina, I can't imagine USDot approving this. I can totally see them as saying, "this is distracting, yadda yadda friggin yadda". I lived in South America for 8 years and vehicle accidents where someone tried to overtake a truck and end up smashing head on to oncoming traffic was a huge problem. This would have to be mandated for it to work. I can't see companies willingly pay for this to be installed on their rigs.

nice concept, but in the end, it adds cost to the trailer.
if you have a fleet, your not going to spend the money on something that doesn't add to you profits.
if your a owner/operator, your sure as hell are not going to spend money on something that doesn't benefit you.
also have you seen the back of those coated with dirt/grim caked on snow. yeah worthless 1/2 the time anyway.

I'm sure it will add cost, but wonder if insurance would consider a discount? Not sure, but I imagine in many instances where someone passing a truck causes a wreck, the truck gets damaged too - causing loss of product, delay of shipment, unhappy customers, down time on the road - all of which cost the industry money too. It would be interesting to see some ROI estimates.
The point about dirt/snow, etc. is a good one. Not sure how they might plan to deal with that. Another thought I had was, how bright will the screen be at night? Would it emit enough light to distract, or cause other drivers to not be able to see as well (glare)?

The darn things will be filthy so you can't see them anyway, Most likely all your going to see is bug guts on the front cam. It's only a matter of time before they are covered in advertisements, They are most certainly a distraction regardless of programming. Hell might as well get your TV remotes and popcorn ready so you can choose what you watch as you mindlessly pilot your vehicle to destruction...

The issue of bugs on the cam are a non-issue. See auto racing onboard cams, they have the technology to keep the view clear.
The rear monitor staying clean is most likely a challenge. And I hadn't considered commercials... imagine, trying to set up a pass and the screen changes to "COME DRIVE FOR US!!" just as you finally get to a passing zone. lol
Shedding personal responsibility? I think that's a stretch. It would be great to see what's in front of the truck for many reasons, not only visibility for safer passing.
But let's say I'm the most patient driver in the world (I'm not), but theoretically... Why would I NOT want the impatient road ragers to have visibility to me (in the oncoming lane) from behind a truck? That's reality. People are going to get impatient behind trucks and try to pass them. Maybe less people will pull out into a head on collision (injuring innocent people in the process) if they can see oncoming traffic from this technology.
