Selling my 1989 - Orlando, FL Area - NEW PICS

I have a 1989 4Runner at my house I cannot seem to get running. I have tried everything I could think of, Just did a tune up, seems like it is not getting fuel somehow.

It is Grey, 5-Speed 4WD. 173k.

Cruise Control (Works)
Power EVERYTHING (All functional)
rear window works great.
Top never off.

Rust around windshield and sunroof, and some slight bumps on both front fenders. Never in serious accident.

converted to 134 (air works when running)

tires in great shape.

Interior in AMAZING shape. New shift boot, stereo with remote.

LOTS of extra parts. (spare sunroof insert, trim for windshield and drip rails, spare rear window motor, spare door panels, misc switches all OEM toyota parts. Close to $700 in spare parts)

Never modded or taken off road.

Truck will need to be towed, but great if you fix it or need parts. Ran great, just frustrated I can't get it running.

I'd rather see it go to a good home, there has to be $500 in parts I have with it.

its a 3.0 to machine etc would cost you almost 1500 and thats not labor or additional parts like hoses clutch belt radiator etc... I should know I sunk almost 3600 into my truck in the last year.. And I probably have close to 3k in parts just sitting in storage.. hence my statement if you could get close to 2500 as a donation its a big help not running well I can honestly tell you you would be lucky to get 2k as it sits... sadly replacing the motor will still cost you more then the value of the truck.. I know the only thing keeping me ahead of the game is all of the accessories and modifications that are on mine...

You are somewhat correct, the truck does not need a new engine, just a fuel pump (i think).

I'd rather have some cash in hand, than a tax write-off, I have enough of those.

I think $1200 is a fair price to the right buyer.

I'd like to offer another viewpoint

I recently have been going through the decision process of whether to sell my rig or keep it. What makes the decision difficult is twofold. First, I've already invested about $5k into a $2800 truck with high miles. The truck is overall in good looking shape, and when I bought it, I knew at some point I was going to put a new engine in it. What I didn't realize is all the other stuff that I'd be replacing . . . alternator, radiator, timing belt/water pump, ignition switch/cylinder, clutch, valve cover gaskets . . .

Since I wasn't in a position to do the work myself, I made the choice to pay a shop to do, which obviously doubled (or more) the cost of getting this stuff done. At this point, I have to get the front end rebuilt and put new shocks on, and within a year, I will most likely upgrade to a 3.4 engine, to make it worth keeping.

By the time I'm done, I'll have way more $$$ into it than it's worth (market value). But here's my point, that people in this forum reminded me of. When I'm done, even if I've spent $15k, I'll have a classic cool truck that is in like new shape, that will last me years to come and be fun to drive.

Is my decision logical? No. But at the same time, I also don't want to risk buying a newer used common 2nd/3rd generation 4runner that may have some unforeseen problem, that will cost me the same amount in the end.

It's a crap shoot either way. I do know I can't afford a new $30-40k vehicle, and for half the price, I can have a really fun, great performing vehicle.

that is a GREAT point.

To give you guys an update, I got the truck running... Turns out that witht he rust around the windshield, water had gotten on the EFI relay and shorted it out... One trip to NAPA and $35 later the truck fired right up.

I am considering keeping it. I will never find another 89 with EVERY factory option. I am going to start pricing out a paint job and see where it goes from there.

I would definitely fix that rust around the window if you're going to keep it. Let us know how it turns out. Who knows, maybe you'll inspire someone else down the road in the same position you're now in
