selling my 4runner

In his defense, the other day walking on campus I did see A sand dune colored Tahoe much like that one with probably a 3 or 4in lift and the tires were out like spidertrax, and, well, I just about nutted myself.

-edit, now that the picture fully loaded (my internet is acting like its a 56k modem, I believe it was a Yukon that I saw that day.

Still, If you are going to trade in the Runner, get a 4th gen!

If I were you I would ask to see a complete list of all maintenance records for that vehicle.
When you have that list check to see when the brake pads and rotors were last replaced.
If they have not been replaced yet it might be in your best interest to pull the wheels and check them yourself.
If you are taking the vehicle to a mechanic before you buy it, make sure the brakes (all around) are checked as part of the pre-purchase inspection.

From what I understand from other Tahoe owners I know, this vehicle is not very easy on brakes
(ie. they need replacing more often than some other vehicles of the same size).

BTW, my sister-in-law had the same generation 4Runner as you have now.
When they sold it at 72K+ miles (they needed more room) the pads and rotors were still well above spec for state inspection.
My brother loved that vehicle since he only had to do regular maintenance to it and had ZERO problems with it.
Too bad the same can not be said for the DC Minivan that replaced the 4Runner.

TAHOE??? Why not a Hummer H3 or a Jeep Commander

Do yourself a favor and do some research on vehicle reliability (it's a Chevy), fuel economy (gas is over $3.00/gallon), safety (crash rating), residual value (you willl be upgrading it in the future), and at least test drive it before you buy.

My brother owns a 2007 Tahoe... the only reason he bought it was for cargo space and his employer paid half of the vehicle price. But he is getting killed at the pump, and the truck has been back at the stealership twice in less than 1 year.

If you are concerned with the age or the mileage of your 4Runner and feel the need to upgrade, get a new T4R, or, if you and your dad are independently wealthy, get a Lexus. :biggrin2:

i did test drive it and it runs great. it's never been taken off the road and it is in great condition. it gets better gas mileage than my t4r, so screw all of you who say tahoe's are bad cause they get poor mileage. my t4r gets 11 mpg. i love my 4runner but i hate the looks of the 4th generation. also, i'm a chevy man and the only reason i didn't get a z71 to begin with is cause i couldnt find one for $10,000 or less. i understand all of you love 4runners and so do i, but i'm moving on. my dad has always had a chevy truck and has never had any problems with it. i've had 2 buy 2 new alternators, replace the brake pads, and buy a new battery since the day i bought the 4runner. don't try and tell me my tahoe is going to be in the shop more than this 4runner has been cause thats not true.

I like the color of the Tahoe, thats it (was a ford man) lol. If a Tahoe makes you happy then don't listen to anyone else, do what makes you happy.

Your in the wrong place for sympathy and having had thousands of dollars on repairs on a chevy truck in my past I think your crazy. :bash:

All I'm going to say is that there is something wrong with your T4R. It should get much better gas mileage than that. My guess is that your K&N filter has gummed up the MAF sensor, if not that then possibly a bad O2 sensor. All it might take is a good clean of the MAF with a $5 bottle MAF cleaner. My '01 Tacoma with the same 3.4l V6 was getting about 16-20mpg. I used to run a TRD oil/cotton air filter and had problems with the oil gumming up the MAF and the idle control valve. This caused rough, high, or low idles, hard starting, and poor mileage.



EDIT:
FYI: EPA in the 1999 T4R Limited 4x4 is 17 city 20 fwy
EPA on a 2005 Tahoe Z71 4x4 is 14 city 18 fwy

So apparently the T4R can almost get better milage in the city than the Tahoe gets on the freeway.

Agreed. It makes no sense. But I mean if you would really like to have that Tahoe. Go on ahead, but when it tears up, and it WILL tear up, let us all know about it.

And before you jump down my throat: My family has always driven Chevy's. My dad has never had anything but a Chevy or GMC. He has spent numerous amounts of money on maintenance. The day I got my 4runner was the day he decided he wanted a Toyota.

My mom has an 04 Envoy. It was a pre-4runner buy. Its a 4 year old car, well taken care of, has all its checks, not even 90,000 miles, and the transmission completely went out on it.

I am telling you. If you must sell your 4runner, why not get a Landcruiser or a Sequoia if you really want something bigger?

i understand yall's baffledness. the thing is, my dad has always owned a chevy pickup and my mom has always had a chevy suburban. my dad has had 3 chevy pickups and never had a single problem. my mom has had 2 suburbans and the only problem we had with it was when she hit someone in a parking lot. chevy's nver break

I didn't know you could say Chevy on this forum!:bugeye: Anyway, they are 2 completely different vehicles with the exception of being 4WD SUVs so it's difficult to compare. The new 4runners and new tahoes are more alike in classes now, but these are both older. IMO they are both badass and I would gladly take either one. You should have no problem selling the 4runner BTW

Back in the days we had a couple Chevy's, but then when my dad got his first Toyota, which I believe was a Tacoma, we never owned another Chevy again! We've owned about 6 different 4Runner's, 2 Tacoma's, and 3 Tundra's! :bigok:
