'05 4R Fire-Rescue Edition

Just got back all the paperwork & it officially went into service this morning.

Not your typical command vehicle... This is a full rescue truck. Complete with 10,500psi hydraulic pump, Combi-tool (Jaws of life), wood cribbing to stabilize vehicles, ice rescue suit, swiftwater rescue supplies (suit, helmet, ropes, throwbags), 300 ft. rope bag w/ rigging kit, med kit, oxygen, fire extinguisher, wildland fire gear, project lifesaver (uses radio frequency to track alzheimer's patients), & more.

i'll take some pics with a time delay to get all the lights on later.

Awww, I couldn't resist poking fun at myself and others that black out our plates in posted photos! :biggrin2:

ANYHOW, very nice 4Runner! Thank you so much for sharing the photos. I cannot believe how packed that thing is. How about some night time pix with all of the safety gear lit up?
 
comfortable seating for 2.
it is staffed 24 hours a day by one of our rescuers, who responds direct to calls in it from work/school/wherever they are, so usually it only has 1 person. & if it's going on a call, the driver will be wearing all the stuff in the back driver's seat, so it can squeeze 3 if needed, but it's designed to be more of an equipment mover than a people mover.

Ahh, my apologizes. I gotcha now! ;):

Ohh, and another thing....I noticed the extra lights underneath the rear taillights. Good stuff but I'm assuming that's not a Toyota option, yes?
 
You definitely have one of the coolest 4Runner's on the board! It seems most departments use an Explorer or Expedition as their vehicle of choice. It is nice to se a 4Runner like that!

Not an option, but those lenses were standard on the 03-05 4Runner. Many on the board have converted them to extra signal/brake lights or rear fog lights.

Are you guys planning on installing any type of winch system on it?
 
ya, we're planning on getting a brush guard and a winch at some point, but for a volunteer agency, we buy things somewhat in stages. also on the short list are some aftermarket shocks since the ones on it will wear out way too quickly with the load it's carrying.

ya, our other light rescue is a silverado, which is nice because it can carry so much stuff, but we wanted something for the new one that was more practical for daily driving, seeing as we put on around 20-25,000 miles a year & gas keeps going up, plus it's impossible to park the huge truck anywhere, so we looked around for something that was affordable, big enough to hold our stuff, and could withstand some of the driving conditions we have while loaded down (tons of snow, mountains, unpaved roads, offroading, etc...)

Nice setup.
Try the AirLift 1000 rear air bag helper springs instead replacing shocks (Summit Racing has a great mail order price.)
Also, are you considering upgrading the tires?
