sequoia rear window ?

Hi,

Sorry for high jacking this forum for a sequoia ?, but I knew I would get a response. I bought a 2005 sequoia and the back window will not roll down. I bought the sequoia knowing that it didn't work and figured I could fix it myself. Besides the back window not rolling down, the rear wipers do not work as well. I think this is by design and perhaps the rear window is not fully up all the way even though it looks like it is.

People who have sequoias have told me that they have experience the same problem and it was the rear window motor. Before I start tearing this apart, does anyone have another idea as to the reason? Is there a fuse I can check out first? If it is indeed appears to be the electrical motor , how much of a pain is this to replace? Appreciate any help.

Mike typically this is a memory problem. You are looking at the rear window and assume it is all the way up, but it is not. So you need to make it seal up to the top. If you can't do it inside the vehicle then use the key switch at the rear.

My guess is you will see it go up like 1/2 an inch. So for grins make it go all the way down with the key and all the way up.

Then try your functions from inside again. When this memory is "off kilter" then the rear defrost, the rear wiper, and the rear window up/down functions are all out of whack. It thinks it is 'down' and it is - so it disables the other functions to keep from breaking them.

This is how we fix it on the Runners so give this a try on the Sequoia. The cost of admission to this forum is a pic. And if we have fixed it for you then 2 pics.

Another quite simple possibility is the window down lock is on at the drivers door....but that would be an insult to your intelligence to lead with that one.

Thanks for the reply. I should have mentioned that the key wouldn't roll the window down and that's why I think it's either the window motor or a bad fuse. I wish it was that simple, but I don't think so. The window appears to be all the way up and honestly it's not that big of a deal that it doesn't work, but it would be nice to have the rear wipers work etc. Any other suggestions would be great. I'm sure window design is similar to how the 4runners work.

Don't know if I'll be able to post pictures. I use a dial up here at home and my home computer sucks as it is.

If all the rear functions are out-then it is too much of a coincidence....so we're still in the diagnosis phase eh..?


keep us in the loop we don't get notifications of replies so I for one will keep checking back. But yes if the key switch will not do anything now I am leaning towards a simple fuse, don't just look at it to judge it-just try a new one for grins...check the amperage and so on.

Something made it blow-any recent car stereo mods or auto starts added or some other gizmo gadget?

Thanks Ron. I'm not in any hurry to get it fixed, so I may not post an answer for some time. I was just poking around to see if there was something simple I could check do right now without having to take it all apart. Not sure which fuse controls it as well, but will look into your suggestions. Thanks for the reply.

I had the same problem with my 4r, nothing worked not even the key. I opened the hatch and looked at the boot where the wiring goes and after some investigating the opening and closing of the rear hatch had sheered a wire or two even though they were inside the protective rubber. I spliced them back together. Just a thought.

Maybe water corrosion to the wires. check the fuse, if not take apart the rear door panel and look around, you should see the obstruction.

My 2000 had the same problem but it was from opening and closing the hatch which caused the wires to bend everytime and eventually broke

It may be that your slide rails are rusted

The wifes Sequoia rear window would not roll down but I could hear the motor trying to work. After disasembling the rear hatch trim, I found that the rails the window rolls up and down on were so serverly rusted that the window could not move at all. 4 years old and there was rust flakes, chunks, adn complete rusted through holes on the rails!! Had to replace the rails, not a hard job just a PITA, Watch out as there are a lot of razor blade sharp metal pieces in that tight compartment. One note, before installing the new rails I greased them up on all sides to hopefully ward off the rust monster from coming back to soon.

Most these newer vehicles (2003-04ish) require the Toyota TIS OBDII interface to "reset" things after a battery change/loss of charge/etc.

Find someone with a DVOM that knows how to use it.
