Honestly this review seems pretty fair to me. The Sequoia is ancient, and there is a lot more competition in the full-size SUV market than the 4Runner faces.

At the price of some of these comparison trucks you're almost in the Land Cruiser realm.

While many of these platforms are becoming dated, I think the LC has a nice advantage over the others. The turbocharged V6 in the Expedition would be nice though.

The sequoia wouldn't be my first choice in that category. I'm kinda surprised Toyota hasn't dropped the sequoia entirely. I think they're giving hints that it's days are numbered as part of the lineup. If a LandCruiser was too small - I'd be buying the Suburban/Tahoe.

The Durango isn't really even in the same category. Not sure why it's included. Realistically the dodge sprinter is more likely to be cross shopped with than the Durango.

Too bad reliability/durability/resale do not factor into their rankings. Almost $60k for a Dodge Durango? A quote attributed to P.T. Barnum applies here. Not saying the Sequoia isn't outdated, but they make it sound like you might as well be buying a 1984 Wagoneer.

Instead of paying that much for a new version of any of those SUVs, I think I'd opt for a several year old Land Cruiser.

Since when is the Durango full sized? It should be compared to a Highlander and Acadia. I’d buy a Sequoia over a Tahoe any day. The Tahoe/Suburban thing is the most troublesome SUV on the market. Sequoia would probably do better if it got a makeover to make it look like the latest Tundra.

That is true. The Toyota trucks are rock solid. My 4Runner is truly outdated but I really love it. Recently returned from a snowmobiling trip up to the mountains. Great road trip vehicle. Solid as a rock with nary a squeak or rattle. I drove fairly conservatively over the 500+ miles with 34psi in the tires and averaged 21.9 mpg. She got a little wheezy in the mountains and I had to slap it into sequential mode to lock out the overdrive but, other than that, flawless. Just thinking how great the next gen could be with a little weight reduction, a few more horsepower and maybe a nice 8 speed tranny.

I honestly have a hard time taking seriously any article/analysis that shows you depreciation but then does not include it in the 5 year cost to own.

They did factor those qualities into the ratings. The "Cost of Ownership" section has estimate for regular maintenance costs, repairs, and depreciation. Interestingly the Sequoia doesn't do particularly well on any of those.
