Seriously considering chopping the rear off my runner!

Hello everyone. I'm thinking about chopping the 4runner by the end of the summer. I have only seen it done on three or so 3rd gens. A white one and two green ones. Anyone know who owns them and any good write ups or threads.

THose few ones you mention are crawlers and they all have full cages. THey are basically trailered rigs. do you really think the roof will hold up in a crash if you hack it? unless your planning on a cage its a horrible idea

I don't hack anything. And this will not be a daily driver. I will put in a main hoop and mods. I'm getting a new car so the 4runner will be the toy/project. I've had jeeps before and no stranger to modding or wheeling or cutting sheet metal!

I agree, hacking it would be stupid looking and dangerous.

I just want to see what other people have done. I like the chopped Surf, but the back end doesn't look right.

What do you mean when you say the back end doesn't look right? Not that I disagree, but what would you do different?

Go for it, man. Having only two doors and a gutless engine are a couple of my biggest gripes about my 1st gen. Chop a third gen (assuming it's done right) and you get the best of both worlds!

the one you see in the picture from japan is actually factory. There was 2 options with the pickup style. One is just the single front row and and a long bed.

On the chopped surf, I think there should be a dip in the tailgate. Also, the tail light on the version I'm picturing should bring the body lines slightly down in the back (chamfered). I've seen this on mossyrocks over on pirate.
