I will be replacing the timing belt on my 2016 this weekend. I’m at 95k so it’s time to service it. :car:

IMO - it's practically impossible for road debris to cause it. First - it must be something big - and where would if fit through? Second - it's extremely hard to knock one of those belts off under tension.
My guess is that the belt just had a flaw and shredded. However - I've never personally had a belt do that. For me every belt I've ever had go bad was due to weathering and slip - not breaking. But I also know it happens sometimes.
It could be any of the pulleys if the bearing went bad or they wobble for some reason. It's kinda hard to believe that it caused major damage like that. My first place to look would be for a tensioner failure. I don't remember if they're spring based or gas based on these. Either way - if there's no sprint to it or the pulley wobbles that's probably your culprit.
The other things to check before the shop does anything would be that the AC, alternator, power steering, etc all spin freely. If any of those seize, they could start the chain of events.
