Service Manuals-1997 okay for a 1998 4Runner?

Are there any significant changes from 1997 to 1998? I found a manual for a 1997 and am just wondering if I will be missing out on any big details by not getting a 1998 specific manual.

no all third gen T4Rs are the same(basically) as far as a repair manual goes. there will be no more difference between the 97 and a 98 that there would be in a SR5 and a Limited.... there quite a few different trip appointments and options within the T4R, like a 4cyl/6cyl, 2wd/4wd, 5sp/auto, ect ect ect. the only difference will be your specific trip options, but anything that was offered in 97 was also offered in 98 so its covered. bottom line is the service manual will work just fine.

97 to 98 you are good. By the time you get to 2001-2002 you would see a LOT of important differences: no manual transmission, no 4 cyl., different emissions system and specs, the ATRAC traction control system, AWD capability, electric ADD, throttle-by-wire, just to name a few.

The on-line version is a 2002 and I am very happy I have a paper '99 as there are lots of differences.

nice more locals, yeah im in ne vancouver orchards area... im always going up through hockinson to go to larch mountain and drive around out on the back roads, find new trails and run them till i get stuck or it gets dark lol. whats your Runner look like? maybe ive seen it around

My Runner is blue/silver, Toyota calls it Cool Metallic Steel.

mine is the darker red, has a brush guard and fill length roof rack, with lights.
