Service Needed?????

Ok....Just turned 30000 miles. Changed the oil every 3k.

Zero...yes ...no problems in the 4 years we have had it. It is an '06 SR5. Other than the sulfer smell it burps once in a while my 4Runner has been very good to me.

Brakes and rotors are still good, just had them checked. Will need new tires in the spring. Other than that, do I need to take it in for fluid changes/cooling flush or anything like that at this point?? I'm just not familiar with intervals for changing anything other than oil. Basically my wife just drives it to work every day. 5 mi each way.

Thanks!!! Also, what should I expect to pay for services if needed?

these trucks need very little attention, at 30k you should change the cabin filter,air filter, pcv and if its a six cylinder the spark plugs. Its also good to check and maybe replace the gear oil and lube the shafts.

-PCV is the positive crankcase ventilation valve. It wouldn't hurt to look at, maybe clean it, but with you very good oil change schedule it's unnecessary IMHO. At 90k or so it's worth servicing/replacing.

- I would worry about the coolant later, next fall maybe… I would also bleed the brakes through to fresh fluid next year.

-I just swapped my V6 to Denso long-life Iridiums from Advanced Auto Parts. It'll get you out of the 30k plugs thing and put you on a 90k-100k plug interval if you choose.


-On an '06 that doesn't tow much I'd do the transmission at 60k. If you tow, off-road hard or have some other severe service scenario I'd recommend 45k.


-The axles and t-case are an easy job. I would highly recommend switching out the OE fluid for some Mobil1, Amsoil or similar.


This first link is to the Official Toyota recommendations. IMHO they miss a few things: 1) They suggest the transmission/axles/t-case never need fresh fluid unless you tow. 2) If you look at the towing recommendations I think they 'over-do-it' with axles... They say change the axles @ 15k however they don't spec a synthetic fluid. IMHO 30k-45k with synthetic is good for the axles if you tow a lot. If you don't tow but use synthetic I like a 60k-75k interval.

Accdg to your quota above, you average 20 mi a day. I think you need to take it on the freeway for a good hour or so.
