Setting Caster to fit 285s?

I recently did my 3/2 lift and added 1.25" spacers and 285 tires. I did the body mount chop and liner is pushed forward. Im clearing everything on the fender well except the liner just outside of the body mount. Guy at my job who is into 4runners says I need to set my caster forward (+4). Ive never seen or read about this on this forum. Any advice! Thanks in advance!

Did you get an alignment after lift install? I ran close to same setup with stock UCA 's and was ok with caster, but could improve a lot. Get some aftermarket UCA's and you will be much better off.

Yes I got an alignment which I dont have the #s but they were able to hit factory spec.

You should be OK at factory settings with a spacer lift. But, how is it driving? Incorrect caster will affect the steering/handling of your T4R. Is your 3/2 lift a spacer lift? If so, you should be OK with factory caster and OEM UCA's. If you do a 3" suspension lift, then you need to really consider aftermarket UCA's.

Yep thanks for the info Sparky I want to go back and check but right now I'm debating whether I should get upper control arms first...

I was dead set on, "i'm fine with stock UCA's, they aligned in spec etc etc" Then i went ahead and got some, I immediately noticed a difference! Now it was not a throw on a super charger and NOS 1000 shot difference. But it rides/tracks/feels lots better.

If your lucky you can find some used ones, on this forum or others like I did. Got mine from HokieRunner had some great customer service, they were freshly painted and got them quick!

You know, I was dead set on stock UCA's as well.... that is until my incredibly bad ass wife stepped in. She asked me "is the Toytec Ultimate kit all that you are going to need?". I said "well, longer UCA's would be helpful, but they are expensive". My wife responded "Meh, I'll buy them for you"! She doesn't even know what the hell UCA's are. I am one lucky bastard.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Im gonna try to set the caster while I save up or wait for some used UCAs to buy. $600+!! Gotta pay to play!

Go with some LR's $400ish

Just to say this before it starts a bit of a flame war, the Light Racing/SPC UCA are a mixed bag on this forum. A lot of their earlier ones had issues and there still seems to be problems here and there. Their customer support has been really good (I had an issue where my early SPC bushings just tore away in less than a couple years, but SPC took care of it no charge) but some members still feel their products are not good quality, while others have had little to no issues and can't understand the amount of hatred pointed at them.

Camburg, Total Chaos or Desert Products UCA's if you want to install and just run them. $200 more

Get the LR's if you prefer to monitor the UCA for cracking welds or failed/shredding bushings. $200 less

Thanks for all the info guys! Finally got around to getting my caster moved and its all good! No more rubbing in the rear and I didnt feel any bad handling issues on the freeway. Had to trim more on the front bumper but that was all of 5 minutes.

Glad you got it sorted out. In my case I had some rubbing issues with 285s, and I had the alignment shop set the rear cam bolt all the way out and fine tune the camber with the front cam bolt. That gave me the max clearance behind the wheel. Apparently that is a method the shop was familiar with for maximizing clearance.

BTW I have LR UCAs with the revised bushings and have had no problems. They have more adjustment for alignment than any of the other UCAs. But most shops won't mess with the UCAs, so you have to set them before alignment. But there are lots of threads or the correct settings.
