TW Automotive in San Mateo. The owner is solid.

On a side note, if you plan on getting serious with expedition style trips, I would suggest saving up for some coilovers and better rear shocks and springs.

Save your money and give it a go yourself. It's a pretty easy job that shouldn't take 5 hours.

Hate to resurrect an old thread, but I guess better than starting a new one.

I'm getting insanely expensive quotes in the Bay Area for installing a Dobinsons suspension kit with preassembled front struts.

Most quotes are in the $800-900 range and some up to $1100 for installation and alignment. This is for a 2015 KDSS-equipped Trail Premium.

Is this expected or maybe because it's a KDSS truck? Was expecting in the $500-600 range for install and alignment at MOST.

Anyone have a recent experience with a more affordable shop in the Bay Area that they'd recommend? Willing to drive a ways to save.

Really discouraging pricing for a ~4 hour job :/

If you have the tools and space to do it, I’d recommend DIY. It’ll take two to three hours and couple of beers and save yourself 7-800$

I’ve taken my ram 1500 and corvette to this place called smog pro in Santa Clara. This guy is pretty reasonable with his prices. And does great clean jobs. He doesn’t have alignment rack but there’s a shop next to it that does alignment (last time I drove by, they were doing $50 alignment special).

currently on schedule at swat customs, toytec aluma, wildpeak 285's, install and mounting of both, alignment. $4500. stellar built quoted me $5,000.

2017 trd orp w/kdss.

ideally, id do it myself so i can know all the ins and outs of the install; but with kdss (and kdss lean) id rather have someone to easily go to and help me remedy the situation

Nice, leaning towards going with SWAT Customs as well, just waiting on scheduling.

They were the first quote I got and my first impression was "this is expensive," but after looking around it seems they were actually pretty reasonable.

was originally scheduled for may 15th with a used trd pro setup i had, but ended up going full toytec aluma. waited about a week or so for a response from brian to get the ball rolling on the new toytec/spc stuff (ordering thru them), and it pushed out my install date by about 2.5 weeks, to june 1st.

from the sounds of it they're super busy and i'm happy for em, just wish the communication/transparency could be a bit better.

there's also advanced trucks in morgan hill, but i'm not sure if they really do much work on toyotas.

I don't live in the bay area but if I were to take my truck to anyone it would be Stellar Built, no questions about it. Just check their social media and you see the only do proper lifts, builds, and work mostly on Toyotas. They're not just some bro lift shop. When I was living in Utah I was actually tempted to drive there to get one of their tube rear bumpers and have my truck re-geared. For whatever reason Utah lacked what I'd call a reliable 4x4 shop.

For suspension, brakes, and alignment, the only shop I’d recommend is Custom Alignment in Mountain View. Years of superb service, they can handle just about anything and are notable for dialing in long travel ifs alignment. Not cheap but worth it to have it done right the first time.

If it was me I’d find a t4r member to help you with the install yourself, then take it to Custom Alignment to have everything double checked while having a proper, high caster alignment performed. They got me 4-degrees of caster on an alignment a few weeks ago, with coilovers set at about 3” of lift and Total Chaos UCA’s, drives like a dream.
