shackle hitch receiver doesn't fit, 2017

Tried to install this shackle hitch receiver - it will not fit. I am not sure if I took off all the paint that it would fit then - way too tight. Tried grease and then driving it in - nope.

Has anyone else tried this one? Is it the hitch receiver on the 4runner of the shackle hitch receiver that is out of spec?

I did not see any mention of the year of your vehicle. It is a known issue with the early 4th gens that the hitch tube is a bit undersized. Many aftermarket hitch bars and attachments can be tough to install in it. I have found that I had to test fit any ball mount first, before buying it. Also, if you have an older vehicle, you may have to use a flat file to remove any built up rust scale inside the hitch tube before bars/mounts will fit.

Thanks for the reply. It is a 2017 and I would have thought they could get it right by now. Maybe it is the shackle hitch manufacturer who doesn't have it right.
Judging by what I see I don't think filing inside nor removing the paint on the SH itself will be enough. I will try sending it back.

I edited and added 2017.

Ok, I am going to assume that you got a Toyota ball mount with the vehicle. If so, I am again going to assume that it fits the hitch receiver with no issue. If this is true, then the shackle adapter may be slightly oversize. If you have a good set of calipers, measure the height and width of the shackle adapter and then measure the inside dimensions of the hitch receiver tube. Also, check the corners of the shaft on the shackle that is supposed to fit into the hitch receiver. maybe the corners are not rounded enough to fit the inside corners on the hitch receiver if they are not sharp 90 degree angles. You can also go to a NAPA store and try a few of their ball mount bars in your hitch to see if there is any problem with them.

I am looking for a hitch receiver with shackle for my 2017 as well...the link doesnt seem to work..do you have a model number or picture so i dont make the same mistake?
